Kristol: Obama Is ‘The Opposite Of Lincoln,’ Would Have Been Pro-Slavery...
when will someone suggest to this 'person' that he needs to shut the hell up coast to coast

'Yesterday, Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) announced his candidacy for president in Springfield, IL, where Abraham Lincoln delivered his famous “House Divided” address. In his speech, Obama reiterated his call to redeploy U.S. forces out of Iraq by March 2008.

This morning on Fox News Sunday, Weekly Standard editor William Kristol attacked Obama’s Iraq policy, saying he wants to appease terrorists like pro-slavery politician Stephen Douglas tried to appease slave-owners. Kristol said, “Obama’s speech is a ‘can’t we get along’ speech — sort of the opposite of Lincoln. He would have been with Stephen Douglas in 1858.”'

1. Oh my God.
:wtf:

The good news from this is that Obama is considered a serious threat, when Kristol pipes up.

5. they, and perhaps especially Kristol, harbor vile divisive thoughts routinely...
but suggest to him that it is possible to read his purpose as the ulterior aggrandizement of policies that favor illegal west bank settlements; and watch the shit hit the fan

28. actually, this is very calculating, to make obama's race the 'issue'
notice how, when the topic is obama, krystol brings up the topic of slavery. slicker than saying "hey bigots! the dude's black!"

notice how, he accuses obama of being pro-slavery, i.e., kristol and the disgraced republics are anti-slavery. this give them the way out of any racism objection, by saying, hey, i made an anti-slavery comment!

the fact that the accusation is nonsensical is beside the point. the goal is not to be "correct", the goal is to point out that he's black.

16.  What I meant was that he is the least charismatic or intelligent of them
all. Many seem to be bailing from the movement. Kristal can't cause it was his daddy's baby to begin with. He once called the intellectual of Europe elitist..because they would now take him, the son of, into their fold and listen to him and his ideas. How stupid is that?

but Kristol has finally lost his mind.

Separately, remember when Daniel Ellsberg grilled him on Cspan back in March of 2003 before the invasion? He spoke to him like a parent to a wayward child...Are you certain of the outcome here? Do you realize that many people could very well die needlessly? Do you want this on your conscience? There can be few things more humiliating than to be completely wrong about a war.

it is really distrubing how this 'coded' racism is everywhere in american society

the subtext of the right's panicky response to obama is that he is simply a 'nigger'

also, the crap about his middle name, Hussein, meant to tie him to arabs and muslims in some nefarious way shows how utterly normalized racism towards the 'darker races' has become; anything anti-Muslim or anti-Arab seems to go in the MSM

i would like to think that in the future historians will point this out, and such politics will be repudiated (dream on, uh?)

24. i thought bush meant to infuse racism into the '16 words' in the SOTU...
when he said all spooky-like, "Africa..." knowing that...
if robot planes & mushroom clouds weren't enough a white-flight fear of an unknown black hat would fill the breach, and you are right it is everywhere

unfortunately is a racist trope for progressives and conservatives : the former want to save 'it', the latter fears 'it'

10. Kristol is on Crysal
William Kristol must be smoking something funny -- like crystal meth? -- to make such a silly and ridiculous statment.

The Good News is that Kristol's silly statement shows just how desperate and lacking in idea the Reich Wing is.

17. This is a real stretch, Mr. Kristol
A better inference would be that Bill Kristol, a supporter of the US imperial war against Iraq, would have supported the claims of the British Empire over the people of India when Gandhi led the independence movement.

19. They are good at sublimation--as absurd as it sounds on the surface, people will remember...
"Obama" "pro-slavery"

as long as they can get you to start associating words in a negative way, they've done their job--they don't have to make rational sense.

23. William "PNAC" Kristol is a traitor.
While helping advance the cause of Big Authoritarianism, Kristol's "advice" re Iraq has seriously damaged America's national security.

Thanks for the heads-up on his feelings on progressive Democratic candidates, bridgit.
