one U.S. bomb on Iran and the regime we all despise will remain in power for another 20 or 30 years
http://www.upi.com/International_Intelligence/20070208-100038-4021r/

Even without two wars that may soon morph into a third, the new defense budget, at $481 billion, will be an increase of 62 percent over 2001 expenditure. This was plus 11 percent over last year. That's more than all the nations of the world put together. Add to that, Iraq, Afghanistan and the global war on terror, which have cost thus far $662 billion. The Baghdad "surge" alone is budgeted at $5.6 billion. Those who predicted a $1 trillion war appear to be on target. But the economy is booming. So President Bush must be doing something right.

At a farewell reception at Blair House for the retiring chief of protocol, Don Ensenat, who was President Bush's Yale roommate, the president shook hands with Washington Life Magazine's Soroush Shehabi. "I'm the grandson of one of the late Shah's ministers," said Soroush, "and I simply want to say one U.S. bomb on Iran and the regime we all despise will remain in power for another 20 or 30 years and 70 million Iranians will become radicalized."

"I know," President Bush answered.

"But does Vice President Cheney know?" asked Soroush.

President Bush chuckled and walked away.

1. it is WAY past time to stop calling it a "defense budget...."
The U.S. spends more on militarism than all the other nations of the world combined. The U.S. is the greatest threat to world peace. It is time to cut funding to the military by at least 50 percent. Personally, I'd like to see it cut by 90 percent or more.

11. 50% would be a 'reduction' to a 12% increase since 2000.
Minimum 75%, IMHO. BARE minimum.

10. Clicking his worn-down bootheels as he walked.
On the breast pocket of his jeans jacket, Soroush noted that the President was wearing two buttons: A Smiley Face and a Pig with a Saddam moustache titled "Got Pork?"

Also, Bush's teeth were filed to points.

On a different note, the only reason Bush even talked to this guy was probably because, as a descendant of the Ancien Regime, Bush figured Souroush was in line for a position in the new Iranian government Liz Cheney is putting together.

And Ms Plame was keeping too close an eye on arms movements to make endless war economic policy

7. With the Carlyle Group posting 800% increases
in profits, I would say they want to keep their war games going.

However, U.S. citizens are fed up with it as they proved in the last election. Unless they declared a dictatorship, they are not staying in power.

8. Well I don't think we have learned that from the recent past..
I am not saying you are not correct, prehaps you are. But what we have seen over the last six years is that we can in fact remove an unwanted regime through the 'invasion lite' methods used in Afghanistan and Iraq. Iran is obviously bigger, but it might very well suffer a similar military collapse when confronted with our juggernaut. As we have seen in Iraq and Afghanistan however, toppling a regime is one thing, ruling what is left over is quite another. Mission Accomplished in Iran is likely to be the new worst military blunder ever, supplanting the current disaster in Iraq.

Summary: we are totally fucked, and by 'we' I mean us and the Iranians.

9. No way, I'm sure the Iranian reformists will relish being bombed to bits
and having their country destroyed.

The Iraqi's seem to love us for it, right?
