Ex-Agent Ties Firing to CIA Pressure on WMD
http://www.usnews.com/usnews/news/articles/070209/9cia.htm

A federal judge has ruled that a CIA agent identified only as "Doe," allegedly fired after he gathered prewar intelligence showing that Iraq was not developing weapons of mass destruction, can proceed with his lawsuit against the CIA. The judge has ordered both parties to submit discovery requests–evidence they want for their case–to be completed by March 15, according to the CIA agent's lawyer and a spokesman for the Justice Department, which is defending the CIA in court.

U.S. District Judge Gladys Kessler issued her ruling after what Doe's attorney, Roy Krieger, described as an extraordinary, secret status conference by telephone this afternoon that lasted nearly a half an hour. So concerned was the CIA about the agent's identity becoming public that the Justice Department prevailed upon the judge to issue a highly restrictive order regarding press contacts by the agent and Krieger. The order barred them from "requesting, allowing, encouraging, or directing" any members of the media from appearing at Krieger's office or even within a two-block vicinity of the building where he works or of any other location of the status conference, until two hours after the conference was completed.

Krieger and his client were also barred from notifying the media ahead of time about the status conference or its location. The judge sealed her order until 2 p.m. today.

"They are worried about his photograph being taken or his likeness being sketched," Krieger told U.S. News, "because if his appearance became public, we are told we will lose one of our most valued assets because been publicly associated with him."

At the hearing, Krieger said, Justice Department attorney Marcia Tiersky told Kessler the department wanted to file a motion for summary judgment, leading to dismissal of the case, before discovery commenced. In response to Kessler's request for a basis for summary judgment, according to Krieger and the Justice Department, Tiersky said that the department would produce affidavits in support of the move. But the judge, indicating that she viewed this as a delaying tactic, said she would allow the discovery process to begin.

10. Well, I sure hope that "most valued asset" isn't currently in Iran.
You can bet that Cheney is working on a way to betray this agent who has come forward if there's any chance that the "most valued asset" is proving no case for war against Iran, too.

It's like the frickin' Twilight Zone in the United States.

11. Here's more background on the case. I hadn't heard of this one. Fascinating!
From the same article:

"This is the second setback for the government in this case. In January, Kessler decided on technical grounds that the CIA employee's lawsuit could not be dismissed. However, the judge did not rule on the agent's central claim that he was fired because he refused to alter intelligence that contradicted the Bush administration's central rationale for the war in Iraq. In that earlier ruling, Kessler said that the covert agent could plausibly argue that his firing was based on allegedly false information placed in his personnel file. Krieger said that his client had gathered intelligence from several countries in the Middle East, including Iraq.

"The intelligence was picked up as the United States began its push for invading Iraq in 2003. As has been widely reported, the Bush administration has since failed to find any weapons of mass destruction. The CIA agent has alleged in his suit that supervisors told him they would notify President Bush that he had found contradictory information but that they failed to follow through on their promise."

---------------------------

So, while they were outing Plame and the entire Brewster-Jennings counter-proliferation network--putting all those deep cover agents and contacts at great risk of getting killed--and were possibly also killing the British WMD expert and whistleblower, David Kelly (or getting him killed, or forcing him to suicide), possibly because their nefarious scheme to plant nukes in Iraq, after the invasion (as part 2 of the Niger-Iraq forgeries plot), got foiled, they were also firing people within the CIA who disagreed with manufacturing a war on false evidence.

I'm glad to see this come out--and have nothing but admiration for Doe's courage--but it adds to worries that a now purged CIA and unfettered, freewheeling fascist cabal in the White House and Pentagon have no check on them as to Iran, and I have little doubt, actually, that the flimsy charges against Iran that they are now bandying about--that some hand weapons in Iraq are coming from Iran--will escalate, either to phony nuke or bioweapons charges, or to a phony "terrorist" or Gulf of Tonkin-type incident. I think Libby may have alluding to such a plot in his "aspens" letter to Judith Miller: "Come back to life--and work," he wrote, in order to cover certain stories, among which he listed "biological threats and the Iranian nuclear program." Miller was in jail ostensibly protecting her "source" on the Plame outings, Libby. His "aspens" letter could be read to mean that: she can come out of jail now, because he is now the designated fall guy to protect the bigger conspiracy, and speaking further in code, he refers to "out west" and a new season--fall--in which the aspens are turning: "the aspens" (Bushite cabalists) "turn" together (are cooperating), because their "roots connect them" (all want more war profiteering, control of Mideast oil fields and US world domination), to keep the long term plan moving forward (despite the setback of no WMDs in Iraq, and the Fitzgerald/CIA investigation): invasion of Iran. The long term plan is deeply rooted; don't be worried by these temporary setbacks; don't worry about testifying against me--all the "aspens" are on the same page now.

The "biological threat"? What could that be? And why phrase it like that, running the two things together? (--"biological threats and the Iranian nuclear program"). Bear in mind WHO these jerks were using as players--people like the notorious Iran/Contra arms dealer Manucher Ghorbanifar, rabid NeoCon Michael Ladeen, and Ahmed Chalabi--real dirty operatives. (Ghorbanfar and Ladeen suspected of involvement with the Niger/Iraq nuke forgeries, and Chalabi of course feeding false WMD intel on Iraq to Judith Miller and the Office of Special Plans.)

The Bushites have shown nothing but contempt for the lives of US troops. Will they unleash nuke- or bio-weapons on our own troops, and blame it on Iran? When you think of 9/11 (the NORAD standdown and other evidence of LIHOP), the mysterious anthrax letters to Democratic Congressmen, two filthy rotten stolen elections, torture dungeons all over the world, and all the rest, it does not seem unrealistic, however horrifying it is to think of.

I just read Autorank's article at Scoop.co.nz, about Zbigniew Brzezinski's remarks to the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, on 2/1/07, which come very close to saying that the Bush Junta might manufacture an incident with Iraq, to start a war. His remarks were startling. He's very much an insider, as Autorank points out. Could the Libby letter have revealed a clue to the actual plan?

And here we are, in 2007, stripped of the honest professionals in the CIA, whose job it was to detect and prevent the illicit movement of dangerous weapons around the world.

15. to clarify:
refer to this quote from the INR memo from Ford to Grossman re: Wilson's trip:

"Another paragraph indicates that “Two CIA WMD analysts seem to be leading the charge on the issue” and that INR and State took strong issue with their dismissal of the Niger issue."
