Bush 'knew nothing' on Hunt-Iraq oil deal

WASHINGTON, Sept. 20 (UPI) -- President Bush said he “knew nothing” about a deal between Hunt Oil, which has ties to the administration, and the Iraqi Kurdistan government.

Bush was pressed on the controversial production-sharing contract during a news conference Thursday.

“Our embassy also expressed concern about it,” Bush said when asked if it undermined a national oil law. “I knew nothing about the deal.”

“I need to know exactly how it happened,” he added. “To the extent that it does undermine the ability for the government to come up with an oil revenue-sharing plan that unifies the country, obviously I’m -- if it undermines that, I’m concerned.”

5. I'm very happy that Dennis Kucinich has been on top of this.

He took his minute the other day on the floor and was asking for an investigation into it.

We need more candidates standing up and giving it to the administration like this. I know Clinton said she wasnt afraid to take on the republicans so it would be nice to at least see her making some statements like this with some bite.

Dennis Kucinich:

“The Administration has misled Congress and the media into thinking that pending Iraqi oil legislation before Iraq’s Parliament was about the fair distribution of oil revenues,” Kucinich said. “But the Hunt Oil deal with Kurdistan should expose the real intent of that legislation, and that is, promoting a privatization scheme.

“It is hard to imagine that in Iraq there is any matter more controversial than oil. So long as the U.S. occupies Iraq, there can be nothing more damaging to the United States’ world reputation than the awarding of oil agreements to Bush Administration cronies.”
