Support the troops, but screw the leadership
Yeah, I said it. All good thoughts and wishes to the men and women (barely more than kids) on the ground over there (my wife's nephew finally left on Wednesday after his departure date had been pushed back) but to HELL with the so-called leadership that's sucking Presidential penis on the issue.

FUCK Betrayus. Yeah, I said that too. And fuck this new guy, this Administration stooge that is so blatantly ignorant (or bought) to blame the "liberal" media for the fact that they're LOSING this war.

My old man was a Marine in Vietnam, long before most of America knew anything about what was going on there, some twelve years before we left. He knows as well as anyone how the troops are like mushrooms--keep 'em in the dark and feed them nothing but shit. And that's what's going on now. A lot of them are little more than kids--youngsters inured to the realities of war, trained before their time on video games that made blood and gore little more than digital theater. They don't know what it's really about, but they will. And many of them will come back shattered, either physically, mentally, or emotionally, because they too, like so many others before them, will realize that the "glory" of war is a lie.

Our officer corps is tainted, especially now, when all the sensible ones have either retired or been encouraged to resign. There are some good ones, sure, but probably very few in the upper echelons. Gaining high ranks in the military is a political game, and the way THIS Administration has run things, they have most likely excised anything resembling good judgment from the equation.

Oh, I'm all for the troops. I'm for bringing them home in one piece. I'm for ending the needless deaths, the brutal conditions, and the horrors they're being forced to witness and participate in. THAT is what "supporting the troops" actually means. Giving them the right equipment, the tactics and strategies necessary to do the job, enough rest between tours to try to sort through the horrific and painful memories by spending time with their families to remind them what life is REALLY about.

This Administration has not only come perilously close to breaking our military, it's also infected it with a cancer of ideology, and brought to the fore the WORST aspects of the political process within the military to curry favor with the Commander In Chief and his lackeys.

It's a deep betrayal of everything this country was supposed to represent, a betrayal so vast that most people shy away from the realization because it's too painful to contemplate. But deep down they know. And, as these kids begin to return, torn inwardly and outwardly by the slashing realities of war, they will begin to understand what has been done in our name to our own people. They haven't begun to see the fruits of the bitter trees they have planted, those chickenhawks who themselves never understood the real cost of war. But they will, when the damage done begins to spread like a cloak of fire through our civilization.

Our children deserved better than they've gotten from our leaders. They deserved a chance at life before they were confronted with the truth and with the bloody ghosts of conflict.

We should welcome our young soldiers back with open arms, but cast instead our spittle upon the heads of those who led them into physical, mental, and emotional doom with thoughts only of their own glory, and their own careers.

Calling the man "Betray Us" was far, far less than he deserved. He is, instead, a lickspittle sycophantic dog owned body and soul by the most criminal Administration in U.S. history. He deserves none of our respect and ALL of our derision.

It is our task now to comfort our walking wounded as they return. Give aid and comfort to those who need it, and tread softly over the harrowed ground of their terrible experiences. If the military can or will not salve their broken spirits, we must do it instead. As we must condemn the military leadership for failing to tend to the products of its abuse and misuse.
