Stop This Now: No-Name Allegations, Sourcing Identify US Officials Presenting Disputed Evidence

Why are US officials hiding behind the cloak of anonymity when presenting the most detailed evidence yet that Iran is supplying anti-US forces in Iraq with weaponry?

After weeks, if not months, of US official planning to present a damning "dossier" of incriminating evidence against Iran, and after this same US administration presented us with lopsided, erroneous information about the capability and evil intentions of the Saddam Hussein regime, the best the US government can give us today is incendiary evidence presented at a Baghdad news conference by three US officials who refuse to be quoted by name?


That's disgraceful and unacceptable.

The American people deserve straight talk from identified US officials.

Here are some of the reports today:

If US officials are so sure of themselves -- their evidence appears credible but is disputed by Iranian officials and others -- then they should agree to be identified publicly and appear on-camera.

Democrats urge caution on Iran claims by US officials

Sceptics question US military's accusations that Iran is fomenting a campaign of violence against US troops in Iraq

Democrats have urged the Bush Administration to move cautiously before accusing Iran of fomenting a campaign of violence against US troops in Iraq.

The call came after the US military claimed that 170 soldiers had been killed in Iraq by sophisticated armour-piercing weapons supplied by Iranian agents acting on behalf of the highest levels of the Tehran government.

Senior officials in Baghdad also claimed yesterday that five Iranians, arrested last month in a controversial raid in Irbil, were members of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps.

They said that the group, all carrying false papers, had been caught flushing documents down lavatories and shaving their heads to disguise their appearance. One allegedly had “explosive residue” on his hands
