Please DU cnn poll about the Dixie Chicks.
I don't even like most "Country" music. I bought their CDs because of the politics, but I listen to it because it's GOOD.

Since there's no "both" option.

11. "Both" would only be a viable option if you thought their music and their

politics were equal determining factors in their win.

I think their politics had something to do with it but I think that their music was more of a determining factor.

Edit: The poll question doesn't allow for a 50%-50% answer as it asks which was more of a determining factor. The question is flawed in that it leaves that option out...

3. I voted politics.
I bought the CD because of their stand. I happen to enjoy their music as well.

Did the Dixie Chicks win more for the quality of their music or for their political stance?

Their music

Their politics

58%
11349 votes
Total: 19694 votes

7. How to answer this no win dichotomous poll?
To answer politics, diminishes their music. To answer music, diminishes the rightousness of their lyrics and protest...

I tend to ignore these kinds of polls...

To whomever gave me the donation heart... Thanks so much! I'm very touched. :loveya:

9. They are ultra-talented Musicians ... all three of them.
However, either way you vote, *us common folk* citizens of America have spoken through these artists and we all reap a small reward. That is, the messages contained within their beautiful music speaks to all of us who have felt intimidated and manipulated into compliance. No more! ;)

12. I've been listening to them for years, long before
"the incident" and I've stuck with them. Sure, they lost listeners because of their stand against Bush, but they also gained other listeners who probably wouldn't have even given them a chance otherwise.

19. As a long-time listener, can I solicit your opinion?
I am not a long time listener, but have heard them on occassion prior to "the incident".

I think that "Taking the Long Way" is their best work to date.

As a LTL, would you agree or disagree?

20. I have a nasty habit of liking a group's older
works over their newer stuff. That said, while I still like the older Chick's music more, Taking the Long Way is a much more mature album musically and shows just how well they collaborate with other artists to complement and expand on their talents.

13. for clarity - the poll is asking if you think the academy awarded them for their politics or music,
not what you think about them winning the award. I say they won for their music, nothing more, nothing less, as it should be.

14. I'm not sure which one I want the answer to be
I like to think that the nation is waking up, and trying to correct the errors we made in the Iraq Invasion brainwashing. Part of that was the injustice done to the Dixie Chicks by Rove's smear campaign. So I'm just as happy thinking of the DCs as being compensated for their political views, since it was their political views that caused them such hardship for a while.

I also like the thought that all of Rove's filthy scheming ultimately only served to make them more popular. The Dixie Chicks would not be half as famous if not for the whining of the right.

In some ways, it's a stupid question, though. It's like asking whether Bob Dylan or Woodie Guthrie were more famous for their songs or their political views. The songs were their political views.

17. never a bad album
They have never had a bad album and the latest is the best. They have been nominated before but it is funny that right now they win big. And they still don't get played on country radio with the excuse that they are no longer country. Which is BS if you listen to some of the junk that is now played.
