Ok DU, If Anyone Can Come Up With This List You All Can. Can Ya Help?
Edited on Mon Feb-12-07 01:40 PM by OPERATIONMINDCRIME
As some of you know, I have a panel in my cube dedicated to politics called my "Wall O'Politics". Generally it contains good one page impactful toons, impactful photoshops (like my one of bush throwing the constitution in the burning fire) or quick news stories that one generally wouldn't hear from the MSM.

People from both sides of the aisle stop by all the time to check out if I've got anything new up there. I've had many amazing and politically insightful conversations started because of this but now I need all of your help to come up with something for me. See, sometimes in the midst of an impulse conversation, my mind gets lost on which important things I want to inform them about and I may end up not saying the things I wish I had. That's where you come in.

I want to put a new poster on my Wall O'Politics with the following bold title:

"The Top 20 Facts About This Administration That You Won't Hear From The Media (Especially Fox News)"

I then want it to contain a concise but impactful bullet list of those 20 things. Each one needs to be short and to the point, such as "The intentional outing of a covert CIA agent who worked in the WMD division" or "They purposely lied about an Iraq/Al-Qaeda connection with intent to manipulate" etc...

I just need the main fact without the sub-details and it needs to be as short but impactful as possible. Hopefully, when it's done, it will be a great bullet point list of some pretty heavy shit, so that anyone reading it will have to pause and wonder 'WTF???'.

Now if it's one place that I can come to for help with making this as good of a list as possible, DU is it. Can you help?

Thanks!

OMC

3. Here are a few
They do not believe in the writ of habeus corpus

They are war profiteers.

They have stolen billions of dollars from the Treasury's of the US and Iraq

They allow corporate cronies to steal billions of dollars from average citizens

They are lying about Iran

PNAC can be compared with Mien Kaumph

I'm sure there are more.

4. Several prominent members of the Bush administration advocated
the invasion of Iraq in a letter to Bill Clinton 1998, including Elliott Abrams, Richard L. Armitage, John Bolton, Zalmay Khalilzad, Donald Rumsfeld, and Paul Wolfowitz. The letter warned Clinton that "if we continue along the present course (of containment), the safety of American troops in the region, of our friends and allies like Israel and the moderate Arab states, and a significant portion of the world’s supply of oil will all be put at hazard."

If I knew how to "bold" stuff on DU, I'd put "our friends and allies like Israel" and "a significant portion of the world’s supply of oil" in boldface.

Washington 'snubbed Iran offer'

Iran offered the US a package of concessions in 2003, but it was rejected, a senior former US official has told the BBC's Newsnight programme.

Tehran proposed ending support for Lebanese and Palestinian militant groups and helping to stabilise Iraq following the US-led invasion.

Offers, including making its nuclear programme more transparent, were conditional on the US ending hostility.

19. PS - when people lose the ability to debate they often babel on like the poster above
incoherent ramblings where they think folks know what they are talking about because the tin foil was taken off and their brain waves are able to radiate out, so instead of intellectual typing they just supply emotion and let brain waves do all the talking.

I guess I need to adjust my brain-o-radio cause I am just getting static on their station...

Promise Not Kept: Making Bush's First-Term Tax Cuts Permanent

In an effort to push the Republican-led Congress to pass legislation making his first-term tax cuts permanent, Bush said in the 2006 State of the Union speech, "We need more than temporary tax relief. I urge the Congress to act responsibly, and make the tax cuts permanent."

Bush's first-term tax cuts expire by the year 2011. While Democrats have said they won't seek to repeal Bush's major first-term cuts, they oppose legislation making the tax cuts permanent.

Promise Not Kept: Passing the Line-Item Veto

In last year's speech, Bush said, "I am pleased that members of Congress are working on earmark reform, because the federal budget has too many special-interest projects. And we can tackle this problem together, if you pass the line-item veto."

LINCOLN’S RURAL REPORT CARD ON PRESIDENT BUSH’S BUDGET

Today, Lincoln issued a report to illustrate the impact of President Bush’s cuts in programs that directly affect the quality of life of rural Americans. Lincoln’s Rural Report Card focused on five areas where President Bush’s budget cuts deep into rural America which include:

1) RURAL LAW ENFORCEMENT – Lincoln pointed to the President’s budget cuts in funding for local and state law enforcement and first responders. She said the following funding sources are critical to Arkansas law enforcement. She said such cuts, totaling approximately $1.9 billion nationally, will inhibit a wide range of services rural communities depend on including combating Arkansas’ growing meth problem.

First Responders: The President’s budget includes a 27 percent cut, totaling approximately $455 million, in first responders funding. Lincoln said these cuts would hinder critical state and local efforts to protect our communities by making less funding available for the preparedness of first responders and citizens, public health, infrastructure security and other public safety activities. Lincoln said she was particularly concerned with how these cuts would effect the amount of federal Homeland Security funding provided to small and rural states such as Arkansas.

FIRE Grants: The President’s budget includes a $215 million cut which Lincoln said would force these rural fire departments to cut back on equipment purchase, safety training, fire prevention programs, and the purchase new vehicles. Lincoln said that these grants are especially important to Arkansas’ rural and volunteer fire departments. Since 2001, the FIRE Act grant program has provided vital resources to many of Arkansas’ 900 fire departments, 85 percent of which are voluntary. Lincoln said that since last Spring, more than 180 awards have been granted to Arkansas fire departments, totaling over $12 million.

27. NCLB forces schools to give contact info on students to military recruiters
And the schools MUST comply unless parents pro-actively opt-out and file papers with the schools that the contact info for their minor children is NOT be be given out.

Not enough people know about this one. Adolescent kids, already at an age where some friction with parents is normal, are being courted by recruiters behind the parent's backs. By the time some kids turn 18, they are primed to sign on the line, after being romanced by recruiters for possibly two and a half years.

Just one more thing bushco and the corporate media doesn't want widely known.

31. Also
Many schools, at the urging of Bushco, tie the opt-out paperwork to informing colleges. More specifically, if you tell the school to not give name, etc. to the military, it also means that the name, etc. does not go out to colleges. Many schools do not let you say no to the military and yes to colleges.

Bastards.

29. Those Are All Good Ones.
I haven't had much time to spend on the comp tonight, but tomorrow I'm going to go through all of these and fine tune the info (like I forget how many signing statements he's up to now, but know it's more than like all other presidents in history combined. I'd want the statement to say something like "bush has signed xxx signing statements. This is xxx more than the xxx that have been done by all the rest of the presidents in history combined".

Same thing with No child left behind. A few more factual details to give the full statement impact. These are all good points of note though. Thanks for your help with them!
