Republican calls for email and IM monitoring
bill introduced to the US House of Representatives would require ISPs to record all users' surfing activity, IM conversations and email traffic indefinitely.

The bill, dubbed the Safety Act by sponsor Lamar Smith, a republican congressman from Texas, would impose fines and a prison term of one year on ISPs which failed to keep full records.

"A crime is still a crime, whether it occurs on the street or on the internet," said Congressman Smith.

1. The TX redistricting debacle ensured that John Courage could not unseat him...
...and here Smith goes, declaring his open hostility for the Fourth Amendment.

4. Yeah this would have been a good bill with Foley
Cunningham, etc. Smith should be careful, he may just get what he asked for. In actuality, it is very unlikely that this will pass.

5. Paranoia Strikes Deep...
I just saw some asshat on CNN with a "terror free" gas station in Nebraska. Yeah, I could see Osama in his cave throwing a shitfit knowing he won't be able to fly planes into gas stations in Nebraska. Good going, Patriot.

For people who claim to be "strong", Repugnicans are sure scared shits. They want to poke under every rock cause someone said "boo". Yes, it is totalitarian, but then when one can't think for oneself and expects others to clean up their messes...this is par for the course.

I'd love to see this get a floor vote and some wider publicity...many people I talked to last year who were former Repugnicans were upset about the illegal wiretapping, this is sure to keep them Democrats.

6. Lama Smith is a real piece of shit

I have never seen him do anything for the benefit of the people in District 21. He spends most of his time serving the interest of groups like RIAA, which have no connections to his district at all.
