Jenna Bush skirts talk of Iraq military service
Ellis Henican
September 28, 2007

She had to know The Topic was coming up.

And when it did, when Diane Sawyer asked Jenna Bush about her father's unpopular war in Iraq, the delightfully effervescent Bush twin grew suddenly glum.

"It's a really complicated, obviously a very complicated subject," she allows in tonight's "20/20" interview on ABC. "Everybody can agree on that." snip

Why did Jenna and twin sister Barbara not choose to do what thousands of other patriotic young Americans have been willing to, to put their civilian lives on hold, join the U.S. military and go off to fight in Iraq? snip

"I think there are many ways to serve your country," says Jenna.

Smoking an American brand cigarette and drinking an American beer.... that's sort of like joining the military and serving in Eye-rack, isn't it?

and putting money into local businesses such as pubs and other alcohol serving establishments.

I fail to see what else she's done beyond that.

51. It is true. The problem, however, is that these chickenhawks think
there are many equivalent ways to serve your country. To the effervescent young republicans, voting for a war is as much a sacrifice as being sent to fight in one, posting on blogs is the equivalent of serving in the military, and buying plasma televisions is just as beneficial as extending aid to someone truly in need...

40. No set date as far as I know
If it does end up being held in Crawford why would the press even bother? Lord knows, they wouldn't be allowed within a couple of miles of the "ranch" for security reasons. Besides, my impression was that the press forces generally hated having to be anywhere near Crawford.

This whole book PR thing is just a desparate ploy to change Jenna's image from stumbling booze hound to someone who's wedding is worthy of more than a 2 paragraph blurb in the society/gossip section.

I had the misfortune of having to see some of the "Today" show today (for Springsteen) - which I normally avoid like an STD. There's the bad seed, in a photo-promo, surrounded by children of color.
This family only interacts with people of color as their servants. Perhaps Bruce should've asked the perky brainless hosts of this program why they are carrying the water for the regime.

They put them all on to spew their crap. I'd love to know how all the republican kids are helping their country. Buying more booze to give them the tax money. That's the only way they are going to get it...they figure out ways to cheat on taxes so they don't have to pay any.

Oh how about running naked thru the halls. Could that be an attempt to get green...not buying those pesky clothes that require to be made by polluting the atmosphere.

36. The Bush family forever intertwines their 'service' to America with their furthurance...
of the Bush family itself, they see too many parallels between their personal happiness with the common good/happiness of the 'we the people' America,

going to Paraguay and shaking hands with local dignitaries in the course of signing their rights into the largest fresh water aquifer in the region is not a per se service to America, it is a greater service to the Bush family and that is the way they intend to keep it period
