Anyone notice Amy Goodman
Edited on Mon Oct-01-07 08:12 AM by azygous
this morning on Democracy Now? The right side of her face seems to be paralyzed. Does anyone know if it's just from dental work or did she suffer a stroke?

2. Of course, GOODMAN
I can be forgiven. I've only been awake for twenty minutes.

5. I haven't seen her but it might not be a stroke.
It might be Bell's Palsy. I came down with it 2 years ago. In 90% of the cases people recover within 6 months.

Here's a link with more info: http://www.ninds.nih.gov/disorders/bells/bells.htm

8. I noticed that Friday, that she looked very very tired. But she keeps an amazing schedule.
Sometimes when she mentions her speaking schedule, I wonder if she lives in airports, dashes back to the Firehouse and then back to LaGuardia while writing copy on the plane. . .

9. Curious here too. She didn't mention it at all. Could it be Bell's
Palsy? Isn't that temporary?

10. Bell's Palsy is temporary
I noticed it this morning, too. I think it's Bell's Palsy, a temporary facial paralysis that usually goes away or begins to subside within a couple of weeks. My husband and a friend of ours both had it. We were told it could result from hitting your head, a particular spot lower left back side, behind the left ear. My husband had cracked his head there getting out of the car. His symptoms were troubling but did go away within a month. I don't think being tired, as Amy undoubtedly is, has anything to do with this problem. The link to an info page early in this thread shows another cause that we hadn't heard about. We hope this is what's behind Amy's apparent trouble, and it would be great if they made an announcement, to ease people's minds.

14. She confirmed on DN! that she has Bell's Palsey
She says it's temporary, which it usually is. I had a friend though who had it and it was permanent for him which it can be.
