Passports now needed for Western Hemisphere travel

Today is the day that travelers wanting to enter or leave the United States by air to or from Canada, Bermuda, the Caribbean and Mexico must have a passport in hand.

Because of a backlog in processing passport applications, the State Department had put in place a flexible passport program Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative to allow U.S. citizens with accepted government-issued identification to travel to and from certain countries.

But the flexible accommodation passport program ended Sunday. (Individuals who left the country before Sunday will be allowed to return under the provisions of the program.)

The State Department has restored passport service to the standard six- to eight-week processing time for routine applications and to no more than three weeks for expedited ones.

1. You said all that twice.
Might be a good time to exploit the handy edit feature.

Prolly just the bits and bytes procreating in there somehow. Or something.

Edit: Good topic, BTW. Now I know the days are over when I can get into Canada by showing my military discharge papers.
