Anybody here remember Lillian Carter?
Jimmy's mom was once the house mother for a fraternity at Auburn. My uncle took me to a homecoming game back in the early 60s. After the game we went over to a frat house to meet one of his classmates from the 1930s, and that's where I met her.

One of the guys was telling me about her cadillac. When one of the brothers wanted to really impress a new date, he would beg Ms Lillian to borrow her caddy. Back in the late-50s and early-60s, many of the students did not own cars. More times than not she would give them the keys. Years later I'm watching the news and see this lady with the new governor of Georgia. It's the house mother from the KA house, Ms Lillian.

8. She was a steel magnolia in the best sense of the term.
I think one of the most impressive things about her was that Jimmy grew up with black friends, in rural south Georgia, and that was obviously fine with her. I was born not far from Plains in the mid 1940's, and it was NOT ok with most folks for white children to play with black children. She lived the life she chose, and produced a great son. He's my hero and so is she!

10. It took a special person
to be the house mother for the KAs. Not quite as bad as Animal House, but close. She was loved by many in Auburn back in those days.

16. Amen, amen and amen!
I was checking on an elderly friend today who recently broke her knee cap and is in a brace from ankle to mid thigh. She said "I know your parents by your good deeds." It is true that the apple doesn't fall far from the tree, also the poop doesn't fall far from the sorry ass. Babs should know that by now.

15. Ms. Lillian was the KA housemother
when I was a student at Auburn a very long time ago. I seem to remember that her cadillac was baby blue. Jimmy Carter is one of my heroes.

She was a dedicated Democrat, and she loved and believed in her son Jimmy. She was a really proud mom and a loving person.

21. I met her in the Depot Museum in Plains in 1977
She was very nice, very real, and gave me a big hug (I was a cute 9 year old at the time). She was a first class lady.
