Podhoretz: ‘I Believe Bush Is Going To Order Airstrikes On Iran Before He Leaves Office’

Norman Podhoretz, widely reputed as the “godfather” of neoconservatism, has released a new book entitled World War IV: The Long Struggle Against Islamofacism, a strident call for continuing the Bush strategy of preemptive wars.

Podhoretz, who was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by Bush in 2004, met privately with the President for 45 minutes recently. During the course of the meeting, Bush listened diligently as Podhoretz laid out the “the case for bombing Iran.” Podhoretz seems to have come away convinced that he made the case.

In a C-Span interview that aired this weekend, Podhoretz states his fervent belief that Bush will attack Iran before he leaves office:

I believe President Bush is going to order airstrikes (on Iran) before he leaves office. Because he has several times said — at least twice to my knowledge — that if we allow Iranians to acquire nuclear capabilities, 50 years from now, people will look back at us the way we look back at Munich and say ‘how could they have let this happen?’

Watch it at link~

Podhoretz is echoing a view that has been sounded by many conservative voices close to President Bush:

Richard Perle: “Would this president do it? I think that until the day he leaves office, this is a president that, if he is told, ‘Mr. President, you are at the point of no return,’ I have very little doubt that this president would order the necessary military action.”

A well-placed source in Washington said: “Bush is not going to leave office with Iran still in limbo.”

Bill Kristol: “We could be in a military confrontation with Iran much sooner than people expect.”

Podhoretz has said he “prays” we will bomb Iran, despite also acknowledging that it could “unleash a wave of anti-Americanism all over the world that will make the anti-Americanism we’ve experienced so far look like a lovefest.”

1. Gosh Normie
50 years from now, won't we all be dead? So who cares how history will judge us in that far-off by-and-by, right?

As far as "praying" for us to bomb Iranian civilians who can't fight back against our state-of-the-art flying machines and who can't get away from our bombs, perhaps you'd care to illuminate us poor backwards folks what sort of God you're praying to for that to happen?

But more than that, why is such a repugnant wad of slime polluting our airwaves with this hate speech?

3. Right... I am sure that Bush said...
"50 years from now, people will look back at us the way we look back at Munich and say ‘how could they have let this happen?"

Bush couldn't find Munich on a map. These fucking people are insane.

4. * has alluded several times to how history will judge them (also
not caring, because he'd be dead), so I wouldn't be surprised if he said that, the delusional fool. Yea, history will ask how he could have let any of what's happened happen, but he won't get any glory for his decisions.

6. This is the biggest psy-op yet to distract from Bush's IRAQ fiasco!
Imagine all the work in the background to organize this media blitz.
Make everyone talk about IRAN and not the disaster in IRAQ. Makes me puke!

7. Bush's 50 years/Munich reference is absolutely right.
Edited on Mon Oct-01-07 11:01 AM by JHB
The only part he's wrong on is the part he thinks he's playing (note to His Squandership: you're not the English guy).

(Although I'm given to understand that Chamberlain had many of the same faults as a certain eqquiphobic faux-Texan.)

9. It will be interesting to see how MSM handles this next war build-up...
Personally, I think they will fall off the wagon again: he said/she said; this side/that side. You won't see too much in-depth focus on just what kind of threat Iran is or whether or not it justifies more (and expanded) war. And anti-war activism (courtesy of what I'm finger-tipping right now) is missing in action.

Actually, given the dominance of the Far Right in America right not, and given its goal of imperial control of the Mid-East and strong central control of all policing policies within the U.S., they would be remiss in NOT attacking Iran. An attack would result in a locked-in, welded-shut military presence by the U.S. in the Mid-East for many years to come and any downside (like some big blow-up there and economic dislocation here) could be easily blamed on the completely supine Democratic "party." (The Democrats are already reconciling themselves to years of Mid-East presence and are starting to turn on their "anti-war Left.") As they say in modern liberal circles, ad nauseum: "it's a win-win!"

Always remember that MSM will fail to adequately cover:
(1) War-making and planning by the U.S.;
(2) War on Drugs;
(3) War on Guns.

Certifiable, verifiable.
