Info on New England voting trends
apologies if this is the wrong place to post this, but I hoped someone would see it.

anyway, I've been trying to find some reliable online accessible data on voting trends in the New England states over the last 6 decades or so... that's not set in stone, any info would be great.

I've used pais and factiva and illumina etc. and none of them have accessible items (for me, with access through an institution's subscriptions.)

I tried going to the Gallup Poll org. site, but you have to have a sub with them.

so I thought I'd ask you politically-informed folks if you can tell me the best sources for info (either online or in libraries)

thank you

1. there's a book called the decline and fall of the liberal republicans
it might help you out. it talks about how the conservative wing of the republican party slowly gained power, and eventually alienated classic republicanism in new england.

other than that, my understanding of new england politics has come from reading a smattering of different sources, there wouldn't be a single one I could point to that is a definitive answer.

2. also, sorry to not just add this to the other post, but,
if you want raw election data, just go to each state's secretary of state or equivalent and look it up there. county recorders are also useful, but in many cases their information is in PDF files and might only go back 20 years or so. some, however, do have hardcopies they could send you, but it might cost you, or they might email them to you.

checking out the bios of different new england politicians also helps. for an interesting look at the political development of one family, look up Henry Cabot Lodge and his family members who also held office.

3. thank you!
I was trying not to have to go through each state, blah blah, but looks like that might be the way I have to go.

there's a book: Parties & politics in the New England states by Miller, Jerome M (ed.) Northeastern Political Science Association, 1997. 134 pp.
But it's small press and don't see it in my area and don't think I have time for ILL.

7. Hey, I didn't vote for him 'but we gots us a Dem Gov now'!
:P

That always has irked me, NutmegYankee. I couldn't figure it out myself. :(

I think it was decided in 2004 that no one in MA would be voting for another Dem gov.
At least that's what I had heard from many people. I guess they meant it because
Gov. Patrick won every county in the state in '06!

8. Indeed.
We still (like over a decade and going) have a republican governor, and an Independent Democrat Senator (whatever the F*ck that means).
