I Am Voting For Al Gore Regardless Of His Presence On The Ballot
As I sit here and listen to how much FUCKING $$$$$$$$$$$$$$ is being WASTED on running these political campaigns, for months and months, on an ultimate election which won't take place for OVER 13 MORE MONTHS, I think that I am glad Al is not running at this point.

With ALL OUR FUCKING PROBLEMS, and it's being spent on this SHIT???? Countless $$$$$$$$$$$ on SPIN & PROPAGANDA. On Corporate WHORE Media ads. On LAME debates, which follow a script.

And Congress.....they can't even work their FUCKING JOBS for christ sake, because they're out running their campaigns. Clinton & Obama should be ashamed of themselves. At least Edwards is not a Senator currently, although if he were, it wouldn't stop him from spending 75% of his time traveling to Iowa & New Hampshire.

And back to those problems. BILLIONS for a never ending war in Iraq. TRILLIONS UPON TRILLIONS in National Debt. A city that's At Least 10 Or More Years away from recovery, which will probably suffer another catastrophe in that period, which won't be prevented because the levies have not been repaired and improved. And things are getting better, right? Ahhhhh....this is Amerika, we'll just throw some more money at it. Fuck the foreclosures, we'll bail out the people that matter, the ones at the top of the food chain.

And through it all, there's Mr. Gore, not asking for money. And if he runs, I sincerely hope he makes an effort not to make it a campaign about $$$$$$$$$$$, about stumping, holding large fundraisers. Make it about the issues. About US......About U.S........About UNITED STATES!! Cap the contributions, he doesn't need the money. WE THE PEOPLE Need It More. If can run the populist campaign, with gatherings where the people who adore him, who sell out his appearances, can demonstrate who it is we want running our country.

I HOPE & PRAY that following the Nobel Peace Prize decision on October 12, within 10-14 days, we hear that he has formed an exploratory group to look at the possibility of running in '08.

But even if not, I'm going to write his name in if he's not on the CA ballot next November. I'd probably vote for someone like Edwards, but I don't think he's going to overtake Hillary. I am beginning to truly believe that our MONARCHY is nothing but that. A position being passed back and forth, with no real semblence to the wants and will of the people. Well, most of the people at least.

So I guess if it's my vote that costs the Democrats the election next November, then I'll be to blame. I just can't in good conscience vote for someone I truly have concerns about in Ms. Clinton. Who I feel has been, and IS being thrust upon us, almost as a given. Comparisons to Dean four years ago are invalid, as I think that Clinton is the "Chosen One," whereas Dean if anything, was the Unchosen one, put in place until he ultimately self destructed.

So when a former * supporter tells me they are disgusted with him, how lousy he is, my reply is...."Well, I DIDN'T VOTE FOR HIM!" Not even once. Of course, they have no response to that one. If Hillary turns out to be nothing more than a Queen, which I fear, then I don't want to be responsible for voting and supporting her, JUST BECAUSE SHE'S A DEMOCRAT.

I WANT AL GORE, and when people ask me now, and in '08 who I'm planning on voting for, I will reply proudly with his name, because it definitely won't be Queen Hillary.

The eyes, the ears, the nose all get less sensitive.

And after 8 years of Bush stinking up the place, any Dem will smell okay.

62. Good point..
I guess I'm just an old timer but I can remember way back to 2000 when I wasn't enthused at all about Gore being President. I felt like the Democratic party needed some fresh blood in there.

Of course, when Gore got the nomination I went out and voted for him because I knew what was at stake, at least I THOUGHT I knew.

Not even beyond my wildest dreams did I think Bush would be this disastrous. As you say, ANY Dem is vastly more acceptable than anybody the repubs have to serve up to us. That much I KNOW.

who are you supporting in the primaries if Gore doesn't run (which it looks like he isn't)? Maybe if people who really want Gore to run band behind a candidate in the primaries that they can support in November--it is possible that Hillary won't be the nominee.

6. I'll Likely Vote For Edwards
I'd vote for Kucinich, but think that even though Edwards is a Longshot, Kucinich truly has no chance, especially in a state like California.

It hardly matters IMO, as I said, Clinton will take California, because we're a state obsessed with "Star" appeal, as evidenced by our Governor, and so we'll support the Clinton name.

But I won't vote for her in the primary, nor in the General. She's going to win that anyways, so I'm not too worried. California will vote for another Clinton next November, with or without my vote.

And I Can't NOT vote. I just Can't vote for someone I don't believe in or respect, especially after the disaster we've experienced with our current Chief ASSHOLE.

7. Looking Back, It ALL MAKES SENSE
Hillary was being Groomed by Bill, so she could take over once King george finished his 8 years. Gore Never Stood A Chance.

And he still doesn't, which if he doesn't run, will be yet another reason for me not to support Hillary. When Al Gore starts to actively make campaign appearances with Hillary in late '08, perhaps I'll change my mind.

Otherwise, I'm going to worry whether Ms. Clinton was part of the reason we won't have even a chance of casting a vote for Al. And it's not like Al is going to ever come out and say anything. Maybe he has more at stake than we'll ever know, to keep his mouth shut forever.

Isn't it EXACTLY THAT, which got us into this position??

So, when a repub looks you in the eye and says, "WELL, I VOTED FOR HIM BECAUSE HE WAS THE REPUB NOMINEE." That makes it all right with you?

I guess that all repubs who voted in '00 and '04 should then be forgiven, because they were doing the responsible thing for their party.

And so shall we, us Democratic SHEEP, vote the way we're told, whether we want to or not. Whether we fear the outcome or not. SHE'S A DEMOCRAT!!! HOW COULD YOU NOT VOTE FOR HER????

HRC is pro-choice, pro-environment, pro-education, pro civil rights for gays, pro-universal health. There is a huge contrast between ANY of the Dems, including Hillary, and any of the Republican field.

If Gore runs, great. But if he's not on the ballot, and you write in his name, you've just helped pave the path to a Rethug victory.

No, Ms. Clinton is not Hitler, and NO, I'm not comparing her directly to him.

I am saying that I cannot in good conscience support someone I DON'T LIKE. Whom I feel is being GIVEN this Title. The Most Fucking Important Position In The Country, AND IT'S BEING GIVEN TO HER.

And because she's "BETTER" than the repubs, I MUST SUPPORT HER.

56. As I worked the polls in Florida in 2000, I must disagree
what got us into this position was the outright theft of the election by BushCo, and the media's support of it all. I witnessed firsthand white police officers bullying black voters, setting up road blocks in poor neighborhoods, trying to shut down polling places in black neighborhoods early, even pulling over church buses when we tried to bus minority voters to the polls and forcing them to unload when the driver could not produce a state taxi license.

Gore had the votes needed to win by a fairly good margin, but BushCo did everything possible to suppress those votes. The anger should be placed on the GOP and the MSM, not Nader voters (and no, I did not vote for Nader then. I worked for the Gore campaign).

were honest. Many of the people I know who voted for Nader would not have voted at all if Nader were not in the race. Demanding fair elections and strong candidates will win the office, third parties or no third parties. As a democracy, we shouldn't demand that there only EVER be two choices.

I think if he ran, he would do it in a responsible way. Don't know how, but that's for him to decide, if he enters the race.

But for sure, I can't see someone with Al Gore's conscience, who sees this country as he does, and run some sort of $$$$$$$$$ raising campaign, as Clinton & Obama are doing.

It's almost like they're in a race to see who can raise more wasted money, so they can spend it on asking for more.

19. We're Not Talking About His Past Campaigns.
I'm talking about 2008. Past is the past.

If you're saying that Al has not grown and matured, and developed more intelligence in the past 8 years, then you obviously haven't been paying attention.

Do you not hear him talking about this ridiculous 2 YEAR PROCESS that's taken hold of our system?? Do you not see that he is more noble than the majority of the candidates currently running, certain exceptions of course.

All I'm saying is that Mr. Gore is smart enough to know what it's all about, and if you think that in 2008, for him, it's about the $$$$$$, then as I said, you haven't been paying attention to him these past 8 years.

And besides, he has plenty of his own money to spend, and I think he will focus on what matters, and not on how many $1,000/plate fundraisers he can hold. And that's exactly how he'll get the support he deserves.

There might be more $$$$ at the top, but there are more PEOPLE in the middle and at the bottom, and they are the ones who will support such a candidacy, in important ways which can't be measured by money. And of course, with their votes. Which will be the ultimate measure.

Of course, it won't matter if he doesn't run, and we're GIVEN Queen Hillary, which I fear becomes more likely if Al doesn't announce by late October.

Al Gore would have lost, and would have Never been able to come back at a 3rd consecutive campaign. Way too much damage. Plus, he was focussed on improving his reputation, and a campaign, against someone who was already SELECTED by the voting machines as the winner.

Are you fucking serious???? Do you not think that after '00, Al didn't realize WHO he was up against, and what CRIMES & FRAUD they were capable of?

but I'm not going to sit home and pout about it. Any one of our candidates tops any of the repubs candidates. Of course if you think repubs are better then vote for one or stay home.

20. Don't let the nostalgia kill you
Al has given in the towel. He's having a better life, and we probably are too. Because I'm not sure the presidency of this country is a decent place for a decent person. He can do more outside of it at this point. It's corrupt and rotten to it's core.

Oh, and I will NEVER believe that Hillary Clinton will actually truly win the nomination. I don't believe the propaganda. However, if she does, I will no longer have faith in anything in this country. (not that I have MUCH-but holding on the the election fraud of 2004 is something because it means I can actually believe there are MORE of us than them and that they had to cheat to win) If she does, then I will no longer have any faith in the Democrats/Independents/decent folks in this country. Edwards, Obama are the better choices my four million miles (not to mention Kuchinch!) But if she gets it-the game is rigged or the people are fucking stupid and bought the propaganda. I don't know which is harder to take.

27. Unless you are contributing to them, it isn't 'your' money being spent on the campaigns.
And if you REALLY have a problem with Hillary, do what you can to make sure she is NOT the nominee. Vote against her in the primary. Not by voting for Gore if he hasn't declared, but by voting for another candidate that you can support and who is running.

I want Al Gore, too. In my head, I know chances are slim. In my heart, I keep thinking he might run. But if he doesn't, I am going to vote my conscience in the primary and for whichever Dem wins the nomination. For me, it is about the Supreme Court. I have kids. I can't see saddling them with a completely conservative court for the next 30- 40 years.

Before I said I was going to hold my nose and vote for any dem but now if its Hillary I won't. I read the whole latest Vanity Fair article on what Bill and Hillary did to Al and Tipper and I wouldn't vote for her if you paid me.

I would rather have another 4 yrs of slime repubs then give my vote to her. I don't think she is strong enough to change the congress or senate to the left anyway so what difference is it?

After all the republican money she has taken, anyone thinks she won't pay them back for it...

48. y'know, a write-in candidacy for the Primaries isn't a bad idea...
i wonder if i can stir up something in my primary. i think some of my fellow members are stupid enough to write in Ronald Reagan if i give them a bit of a push. and since dead men can't run for president, it'd be a cakewalk for Gore in '08. i say go for it, see if you can start a write-in campaign. i'll try to work up something on my side of the aisle. except mine'll be less fruitful, naturally.

52. I can completely understand your frustration.
I won't be voting for 'Hil' either. I just can't. She turns my stomach. But I won't be writing in Gore. He could have taken the White House in 2008 and there's nothing the corporate whores could have done to him. He's been through it already. But he decided NOT to heed the call of his country and for that, I'm deeply disappointed in him. He did not answer that call and he was literally our only hope at regaining our Constitutional Rights.

I have a correction to make. Howard Dean did NOT destruct. The corporate-owned DLC pieces of shit and the MSM did him in. If he could have held out for California and New York, he would have won the nomination. However, the corporate-owned John Kerry was the chosen one and by god they were going to have their choice. Their choice proceeded to LOSE to the worst. president. ever. And yes, I know there was election fraud but the point is it was so close that it could be stolen. No, Howard Dean didn't destruct, all they needed was 600+ mostly white people in a mostly-rural state in order to manipulate the caucus and the MSM declared the winner. 99.99% never even got to vote on it which is why I'm a big advocate of a national primary.

I'll be writing in Kucinich.

57. Well said
I think Gore has until Nov. 2 to announce, so I still hold out the tiniest shred of hope that he will and thus suck all the air out of Hillary's campaign. I'll be very disappointed in him if he doesn't also; yeah, I know that he's "happier" as a climate campaigner, but most of the time he's really only preaching to the choir, not making the choir bigger. The only truly effective way for him to change the course of humankind's fate is to become president, but who knows what kind of threats or messages he's received. He could have been told straight out that the media will destroy him if he chooses to run.

70. I still think there is a small window of opportunity for Gore to get in yet.
I sincerely thin he's waiting until after the Nobels are announced. I think he's afraid that running for POTUS while also being in the running for the Nobel would politicize the award in the eyes of the committee, and disqualify him in some way in their minds. I think he feels his cause is so important that it deserves to have a Nobel Prize Winner championing it. So, first the Nobel, and THEN the announcement. I'm giving him until the first couple of days of November. If he hasn't tossed his hat in by then... he's not running.

TC

60. All of you that HATE our Democratic Candidates
should have LONG AGO been working on a viable alternative. As it stands now - IF you are a Democrat - all you can do is try to get Kucinich or whomever it is you want on the ticket to get the Nom and work to ensure that they get it but to not vote b/c you don't like the Nominee is to work against OUR PARTY.

The Democrats represent me.Not perfectly and not absolutely but my core values and my gut instincts about right and wrong, about Democracy and what it means to be a good citizen are all rooted in Democratic Values.

The reality is we only have two viable Parties. The Democratic Party, in its history and it its whole, is what I believe in.

If you want to with hold your vote for the Democratic Nominee and allow our Country to be run by theocratic bigots and hate mongers who will continue to destroy our social infrastructure and our economy and pack our courts with theocratic backwoods Republicans and who WANT war with the Middle East as a method of Governing and control - I could go on but you get the point - Then you are INSANE.

Gore is NOT RUNNING.Gore Cannot help you.The Democratic Party as a whole CAN and is sympathetic to your causes and beliefs even if they can't act for you just as you would like them to.It isn't as simple as that.

NO ONE is more enraged and frustrated than I am but I know that voting against my own core values or not voting at all is NOT in my best interest(nor in the best interest of our soldiers, our elderly, womens rights/minorities,the minimum wage worker trying to pay for gas and feed a sick child...).

Democratic Underground supports the "Our Party, Love it or Leave it" attitude, while democratic underground would be a place where progressive, even Liberal, ideas of all kind could find a home.

Whattaya think?

72. Please, PLEASE don't vote for anyone but the Dem nominee in the general election.
Edited on Tue Oct-02-07 12:41 PM by gauguin57
My state's primary won't matter anyway by the time it occurs (the nominee will be settled by then) ... so I'll vote my conscience there, and it probably won't be Hillary (though I'm not sure yet).

But I would drag myself to the polls on General Election Day 2008 to vote for the Democratic nominee (even if it's a giraffe with an average-giraffe IQ) if I were dying of typhoid.

Because no matter WHO the Dem. nominee is, he/she will be SO SO SO SO SO much better than any of the creeps running on the other side. That is the only way to save this country. The only way. Hold your nose if you have to, but FOR GOD'S SAKE VOTE FOR THE DEM. NOMINEE IN THE GENERAL ELECTION NEXT YEAR! For all our sakes!

In November 2008, I don't care about your conscience. I don't CARE if you don't like Hillary. I care about my country surviving as a Democracy for a few more years.
