Needed Weekly: The Top 10 Media Idiots.
Don't get me wrong. I love the weekly Top Ten Conservative Idiots. Read it pretty religiously even before I started posting here on a semi-irregular basis. And I think it's helped. A lot of people can now identify these idiots before they make it to the list. But most of the time, it's political figures, religious loonies, and other assorted goofballs. Yeah, Rush and O'Lielly make the conservative list every time they open their mouths. And Fox News is a regular. But even here on DU there seems to be threads that proclaim, "I heard it on the news, and it's been repeated so damn often that it must be true". What really highlighted this problem for me is this thread from a few days ago.

Time for change posted this:

The damage that people like Rush Limbaugh and Bill O’Reilly can do is somewhat limited by the fact that their extremism is so visible that most people don’t take them very seriously. But corporate media whores like Tim Russert are much more dangerous because they pretend to be serious, unbiased journalists – or rather, they are better at pretending to be serious unbiased journalists than are some of the more obvious types. Consequently, when they frame issues like Russert did as the moderator for last Wednesday’s Democratic debates, opinions are often swayed.

That's the problem. We need to shine a brighter light on the corporate cockroaches lurking in the shadows of the mainstream media. Many know that Rush and O'Lielly are media idiots, but many still believe Russert is different.

So, how about it? Anyone up for a Top Ten Media Idiots?

BTW, I'm not really in a position to do it. I have very limited access to this stuff, and kind of like it that way. Not a lot of time either. But I'm more than willing to let anyone steal this idea!
