Who knew that Kirk Cameron was so completely fucked up?
http://www.wayofthemaster.com/

I knew that he dropped out of Hollywood years ago and became a "born again" Christian. But holy shit - take a look at his website. If this guy isn't loony tunes, then I don't know who would be. But the scary thing is that there are probably thousands of people who are buying into this, some partly because of his celebrity stature - ie "well, if someone like him believes this stuff, then maybe it's not so bad."

Maybe there should be a deck of playing cards or something; hard to keep them all straight. But a deck with 52 Jokers probably wouldn't be much of an improvement.

19. I have to confess, I worked on the pilot for that crapfest...
Edited on Tue Oct-02-07 08:29 AM by Javaman
a buddy was producing it and at the time, I needed the money. :( mr. ames (lower case only) was a complete money grubbing ego maniac ex-junkie dry drunk using religion to re-inflate a massively deflated hack career.

On the set, he was so gung-ho about the show, so much so, that he said to me in passing that he could produce the shit out of this show better than my friend. I looked at him and said, so and so is my friend. He gave me the deer in the headlights look and quickly walked away.

mr. ames wanted to give bible man "super powers" where as my friend wanted to stay more traditional by having bibleman teach lessons. not exciting but better than bible man smiting people with his glowing bible loaded with death smite rays.

Later on, after my one time stint on that mockery of religion, mr. ames did get control of the show and fired my friend.

I later found out my friend become indoctrinated by the promise keepers.

even still later on, my friend cheated on his wife. he only found out that his wife knew when he came home one day and found the house completely empty. every single thing gone.

They are a bunch of bizarro, backstabbing, hypocrites, who care nothing of other people and live only to make money on the backs of people who they deem as heathens. aka non-fundies.

17. He was a teenage actor from the eighties.
He was in a show, I think it was called "Growing Pains". Played a cocky teenage boy who lacked academic/intellectual motivation.
Show had a good run ratings wise. Then for reasons that aren't quite clear, he became "born again". This actually became a problem on the show. The producers paired him up with a young woman who was supposed to be his college girlfriend on the show. There was supposed to be scene where she gives him keys to her apartment or makes copies of the keys for him. Interviews with other cast members said that he strenuously objected to the scene. He didn't like the implication of non-marital cohabitation and pre-marital sex that the scene conveyed. The show did end. Coincidentally, he did actually marry the girl who played his college girlfriend and as far as I know they are still married.
As far as acting the only thing I know of that he has been in was the "Left Behind" series of rapture-oriented films. Beyond that he seems to have fallen in with rapture-ready evangelicals.

He has actually done some good work. I guess he didn't squander the money he earned while he was on TV. If I remember correctly, he and his wife run a camp for children who are ill or terminally ill. Similar to the Make-a-Wish Foundation.

31. I remember hearing about his making life difficult
But technically, he was the star of the show so he took it upon himself to boss people around and tried to push his religion off on everyone, got people fired if they didn't meet his approval, etc. The big one was Julie McCullough who was on the show as a nanny/love interest of Kirk's character. She had previously posed in Playboy, and Kirk went ballistic and got her fired for that.

3. who knew he was so fucked up?
basically everyone who ever had to work with him! And he didn't "drop out of Hollywood", like he would like you to believe. He became unemployable as an actor or director because he insisted on only working with people who believed like he did which is kind of hard to find in that melting pot of creative ideas we call Hollywood. Couldn't find a job, so now he's milking the Christian thing for all it's worth.

He'll be an answer to a trivia question in another 5 to 10 years.

Sweet baby J, that's just classic.

I've always been of a mind that God, if you chose to believe in it, would probably want you to use that tool between your two shoulders as opposed to "bypassing the intellect" as Kurt suggests.

22. You know there's a punchline to that video.
The banana that we know and eat today is so far removed from the "natural" version supposedly created by Comfort & Cameron's god it's barely recognizable as the same fruit. And do you know why? (Un)natural selection. Evolution in action - humans selecting the traits they liked (smaller and smaller seeds to the point of infertility), sweeter flesh, etc. until we've ended up with the fruit we love. The variety that we eat can now no longer self-reproduce - they're entirely dependent on humans.

So the banana is quite the opposite of the atheist's nightmare. It should in fact be haunting creationists' dreams.

Not to say there is not discussion of conversion to Buddhism, or Kaballah, or anything.

In general (and yes, I am at risk of making a generality here) its a matter between them and their God (or whatever their diety's name is), provided they don't throw it in someone else's face.

I don't like evangelicals for that reason, nor do I like space cadet actors who profess to a belief in a science fiction religion either, and want to pretend it doesn't need explanation.

And then there is Cthulhu http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cthulhu

39. Kirk used to live next door to a friend of mine and she
introduced him to me. At the time he and his wife had just adopted their first child. I have to admit I had never watched Growing Pains and had no idea who he was, but he was polite and friendly.

He occasionally had my friend and her husband over for dinner. Friend's husband is an athiest. There was never any attempt to convert him. After Kirk and his wife moved, they invited my friend and her husband to a birthday party at their new home. Quite a few of the cast members from Growing Pains were there. It was a congenial get-together of friends and nothing more.

I realize Kirk's involvement in the Left Behind series and the Way of the Master stuff is a bit "out there," but the guy is sincere in his beliefs, apparently, and genuinely feels he's doing his Christian duty by spreading the word - which people can certainly choose to ignore. I don't buy into what he's selling at all, but as a person, he's really a decent guy.
