Heads up: Our outlets like MoveOn and Media Matters are under attack

Before this gets worse, we need to PUSH BACK, imho. Because if they take out our network, that's one more way they can steal 2008, the mofos.

The Thuggery is taking aim at the media networks we're building and we cannot let that go unchallenged. They're not only going after individual candidates this time -- they're going after our ability to put out our message.

Brainstorm with me.

I think we need to: 1)defend our outlets with OpEds and LTTE and by notifying our personal networks; 2) interrogate theirs and LOUDLY all over the net in the same way; 3) send the obvious bs to KO, TDS, DemocracyNow!, who else?

And WATCH them, monitor them. Maybe have a daily thread that tries to record these attacks. It doesn't have to be a lot of work. But, it will give us a jumping off place to answer these bastards.

Whaddya think?

8. I agree that the liberal grass roots needs to defend MoveOn et al...

...by exercising their own free speech in defense of liberal voices, but it galls me to see congress wasting the people's time debating bills to censure folks for speaking out. This includes both sides of the aisle-- congress has no more business working itself into a lather over Rush Limbaugh's comments than it has censuring MoveOn.org. That is what the people themselves should be debating, supporting, etc.

11. My deal is, these criminals are pouring millions of dollars

into shutting us down. And I agree, it is our job, not the job of the party leadership or even Congressional Democrats to fight back.

So, let's do that. We don't have millions of dollars but we have brains. I put out four essays in the last two weeks. They weren't War and Peace but still blows against the Empire. Imho, we're going to need to keep that up through the election because the pattern I see this year is different than 2004 where the attack was personal and specific.

being a Repug owned operation who is getting huge coverage in the rest of the whore MSM. They just did a hit job on MoveOn complaining (rofl) about the Dems who took money from Move On voting to censure them. Kind of hinting that Dems should maybe not take money from MoveOn if they were going to be hypocrits.

Double Whammy for the RW Gas Bags to run with. 1) MoveOn is Joke because it gives money to Candidates who don't support them and 2) why should Dems who denounce MoveOn be taking money from them. 3) what are MoveOn's members going to do about those candidates who voted to censure them? Should they cut them off.

Those are three Talking Points Repugs are going to be making about Move On and feckless Dems that will probably be on Tweety and Tucker....plus the usual RW sources all this week. Politico announces the TP and the rest follow in unison. Politico is the "upscale" mass media version of Drudge and Limbaugh.

Suggestion:

We Dems have "Think Progress" but I notice that "CAP" seems to be acting a little "DLC" these days...which is not unexpected since many of them ARE DLC... but still "Think Progress" is a good place to post some counter arguments because they've been infested lately with the RW Trolls dirtying up the place. If our own Dem Websites have the Tolls/Ops working then that's a good place to start some housekeeping.

36. Time For Some Truth Squadding

The best answer to your question is a stronger, larger Progressive media...especially print and broadcast. This means cooperation and pooling resources to fund these operations and create a "push back" on the airwaves to the noise. Considering most have come late to this game, there's a lot of catch-up to do...and a lot that has already been done.

Thank goodness for places like DU, DKos, C&L, ThinkProgress and others that provide a support service, but most of what's posted are preaching to the choir (and its not always a choir that's in tune...we end up fighting one another than directing that energy toward the real targets).

The resources are there, the money is out there but the coordination isn't. I've seen this first hand too many times over the past few years and it's led to some squandered opportunities.

The good news is we do have options and outlets that can be used more efficiently...there are more Progressive/Liberal voices that now appear on corporate media, but far few on the local level...this is where we need to equalize. Just like Dr. Dean has worked on created a 50-state strategy in party building, we need a similar program in creating Progressive/Liberal media outlets.

I have tried to reach out to many over the years and have been frustrated by how provincial or petty some of the responses I've gotten. I can cite others...including several former DU members in the media who were all but driven off this site and others due to similar frustrations.

Our voices are far under-respresented. While I won't go into specifics here, I'll gladly discuss it in detail with those who care to carry on this discussion further.

Thanks for your threads and all you do for DU. While we don't always agree, I always appreciate your insight and dedication to fighting the good fight.
