call me a skeptic but I just received the following email:

After the last annual calculations of your fiscal activity we have determined that
you are eligible to receive a tax refund of $249.30
Please submit the tax refund request and allow us 3-6 days in order to
process it.

A refund can be delayed for a variety of reasons.
For example submitting invalid records or applying after the deadline.

18. When one receives three or more every day, one is sure it's a scam.
Just like all of the bank notices from banks that one has never had any business with.

2. Seriously doubt the IRS would be emailing people
Outsourcing? Yep. They hire contractors to do a lot of returns. Google outsourcing + tax returns for some bad news.

But this sure looks like a spam scam

6. If the IRS has anything to say to you (good or bad)
they ALWAYS do so by U.S. mail, sometimes registered mail.

14. Since the IRS is outsourching your financial data what makes
you think Europe or any other nation won't have scams coming out of them?

11. I would suspect a forgery
Edited on Tue Oct-02-07 01:04 PM by 133724
We I put the following URL in to my browser (firefox) I received a notice that the site was a suspected forgery.

http://darioman.w.interia.pl/obrazki/secure/redirect.to/www.irs.gov

Also the IRS does not use this logo on its correspondence:

Also there is an address block on the top left side of the notice indication the notice number, the tax year involved, the tax form involved and an IRS phone number.

**********************************************

Firefox 2 contains a built-in Phishing Protection feature that warns you of suspected Web forgeries, and offers to take you directly to a search page so you can find the real Web site you were looking for. You can test the Phishing Protection feature by browsing to this test site.

You've already figured out the scam.

I pretty much figure everything I get "notified" about in email is a scam, until proven otherwise.

17. We may have outsourced to Poland, but this is still a scam.
I mean, it's a scam that doesn't even have anything to do with the U.S. Government under the Bushistas.
