1. Based on the available data...
institutional racism. Why, was there something else we were supposed to conclude?

4. We have always had about half a dozen black families here
since the time of the Underground railroad. Recently, enough new black families moved in to bring the proportion of black students at the high school to maybe 2%. Now, there have been growing murmurs in recent years about possible gang activity and I do say this started when almost all the students were white. Hall monitors and door monitors were added after Columbine (because a lady demanding a hall slip will always deter someone with a gun, of course!)

This is perhaps an unusual school; the students are mostly white, but we do have some blacks and latinos. What makes it really odd is that the range in economic status of the students. Some families vacation in the islands during winter break, others come from welfare families.

I keep hearing about security being introduced at high schools.

Is this due to a fear of black students, a fear of lower class white students, or both?
