24 was simply terrific tonight.
It's campy, implausible, stupid, exciting, crazy, and just flat-out a blast to watch.

Hey what can I say---This Liberal loves it.

3. Yes.. but I sort of wish they wouldn't repeat the Presidential
assasination plot storyline...It gives me the creeps and brings out all of my paranoia..

Good touch, though, having JaCK'S brother and father involved...

5. Great twist having the Americans and Muslims getting played by the Russians
Edited on Mon Feb-12-07 11:38 PM by Mike Daniels
However, I was surprised that they're aiming for two assasinations in two seasons at this point.

Which can only mean that the assasination gets botched and helps to reveal the puppet masters in the government.

6. Wow
:eyes:

Disappointed but not surprised - this is NOT even close to real world operations, but who cares as long as it's dubbed as PURE FICTION.

7. I for one always found Friends to be totally unrealistic
I mean, did you see the size of that apartment? In MANHATTAN?! On a waitress salary? As if.

9. "Friends" doesn't serve as a model for impressionable young
Edited on Tue Feb-13-07 07:09 AM by ShortnFiery
men to beat the shit out of prisoners and call it SANE or LEGAL. :grr:

Address reality vice getting your jollies over pure bull shit FANTASY TORTURE. If you knew how destructive these horrific methods are to torturer and victom both short and long term, you wouldn't be getting your rocks off watching this TRASH. :(

p.s. I hate "friends." I also sometimes enjoy watching my DVD of Full Metal Jacket when I'm hopelessly bored --> BUT that DARK SIDE of myself is not something I'm proud of ... it's something that I know is lower than humane - therefore, I don't brag about my guilty pleasure.

My point: "24" and movies that glorify war are on a MORAL par with underground snuff flicks. If you are emotionally mature, they can be a guilty pleasure, but to those "not quite right" or young and impressionable, they can be POISON. My 2 cents.

12. Yes I have, but admit that I could not sit through one complete episode.

You and I both know that through apologetic fantasy "torture" in war flicks, and TV series (remember Rat Patrol?), that there are SCENES that make people who do horrific things (torture, rape, senseless killing of innocents) LOOK, at the time *oh so cool.*

That, nonconformist, ENCOURAGES people whose mental stability is just a few bubbles off center, to "psyche themselves into believing that it's alright" as long as you don't get caught, like your hero, Jack Bauer.

I submit, like the assholic Drill Sergeant in "Full Metal Jacket" anti-social tormentors and torturers will meet a JUST DEMISE and are not THE HEROES that you seemingly adore. Remember that the good Drill Sergeant got blown away by Private Pyle?

I used to get all psyched up about war glorification. We even wore our cammies to go and see the original showing of "The Wild Geese." Those combat soldiers who had recently returned from the Vietnam War told us we were STUPID KIDS, and they were right. ;) Oh yeah, we thought that we were so cool! NO! It's cool to ONLY those who are young and/or the emotionally immature.

Shows like "24" will continue because we live in a free country. However, if you think its *cool* to laud such fiction that encourages the immature to torture and kill, then you need to search your conscious and take NOTE of what's truly important in this life and our interactions with peoples of other cultures.

Oh so cool? No, mislead and sadly influenced by bunk touted as reality.

8. I definitely agree
Two great hours tonight.

However, it's disturbing that I now have a strange urge to torture. I WATCHED 24 AND NOW I SUPPORT * AND EVERY POLICY HE HAS! THIS SHOW HAS WARPED MY MIND! :)

10. LOL
I told my wife that I would pull her toes if she didn't get me some desert from the fridge. Of course it was far less evasive than a drill bit. ;-)

13. There's a concept in fiction called "suspension of disbelief"
And 24 just doesn't do it for me.

Satellites hovering above one spot on the earth? Sorry, they just don't work that way.

Fanatical suicide terrorists break down after five minutes of "torture"? Yeah, right.

I don't read fantasy any more for the same reason. 24 is a torture porn fantasy.

FWIW, my wife likes it though.

And I've only been watching it for 2 weeks. But I'll definitely be getting the DVDs of the prior seasons ...

15. I've been hooked since watching season 1 on dvd
I liked watching it on dvd as you didn't have to wait a week (EVERY episode is a cliffhanger) and no commercials. Don't want to spoil it for you, but I am STILL shocked how season 1 ended. I was hooked from then on; season 1 is still my favorite.

It has been very torture-heavy this season, but it IS a tv show, and I do enjoy it without any qualms or guilt.
