Tweety 'pretending' to be from Philly again-Cheesesteak Thread!
Edited on Tue Oct-02-07 07:12 PM by PCIntern
What a phony. Rudy came and asked for a cheesesteak with provolone. Tweety 'knowingly' said that wasn't bad - not as bad as when Kerry asked for his with Swiss Cheese...

Screw you, Tweety...your President who speaks bad high school Spanish which you thought was terrific during the 2000 campaign has completely screwed up the entire Nation, and you're still talking about cheesesteaks as though you're really from here.

Why is it, that you are never ever ever mentioned when Philly people talk about their own on the national stage? Could it be because you're just the antithesis of a Philly guy...a cloth-coat Rethug. Screw you. Yo!

5. What a weekend that was!
Gonna go through my entire Psillies wardrobe by weeks end

Every time I see a bumper sticker from his brother's run for Congress, I belt out Jim Ward's "Fair Enough! HA!" It's Pavlovian.

27. And about as dirty
Of course, it's embarrassing to admit that he's even from Pennsylvania. Yunz guys in Philly can keep him. Pittsburghers have their own RW nutjobs (Richard Mellon Scaife)

6. He's A Beltway Boy
For years he wrote for the San Francisco Examiner, but his brother ran for Lt. Guv of PA. But then Robert Novak writes for the Chicago Sun-Times, but hasn't lived in Chicago since the 40's. I'm wondering when the statue of limitations runs out on what you claim is your hometown.

Welcome to DU

8. "HA!!!!!!!!!!1"
to quote Tweety...

His brother ran with the lamest excuse for a gubernatorial candidate since Donald Duck was a write-in. Lynn Swann had not one iota of political experience or chance to win the election. It would be more likely that I would have won. Honest to God.

10. Well We Now Know Tweety's True Colors
For years his claim to fame was working for Tip O'Neill and was blasted by the right wing slime machine as being a Democrat. Recently I heard him admit that he was a "Philly Repugnican"...whatever that is. The last Philly Repugnican I recall was Frank Rizzo.

Cheers...

18. He's from Philadelphia, he really is
He grew up there and he sounds like it, he doesn't sound like New York or like DC, he sounds Philly.

4. Well Is It Really Whiz???
I was just at Genos...and had one with Whiz...but they had provolone and American cheese. I have several friends from Philly some say its Whiz, others say it's Provolone. So which is it? Just curious...I hope it means I don't have to go back and get another one.

7. Whiz is preferred by most...
provolone is excellent however.

He's technically from here but I have to tell you that he is almost never ever mentioned and WAS almost never ever mentioned in our local press. Ever.

I'm sorry, was I being wishy-washy?

Next time I'll go for the provolone. BTW...which is better, Genos or Pats?

Damn...parking around there was impossible.

Cheers...

22. Too hard to park to go to Jim's
John's Roast Pork has street parking and a parking lot (sort of).

It's not like when I'm in Philly that I stay on/near South Street, so parking is a big deal.

23. Most Philly people don't list Geno's or Pat's as their top choice
People outside Philly think those two are the place for real steaks.

It's like San Franciscans and Fisherman's Wharf --it's not our favorite place to go/eat. Maybe least of all because of the tourists.

because it isn't run by a rotten little FReeper who puts this garbage in his window:

Oh, by the way, guess who went to Geno's for a campaign photo op? *cough*Rudy*cough*

At first I thought they just supported the local firefighters...until I got to the window. I made sure to ask for FRENCH fries and got a dirty look

Thanks for all the input...next time I'll know better.

Cheers...

19. John's Roast Pork near the waterfront is better than both
But Pat's and Geno's aren't bad, either one of them. I actually prefer American Cheese, but then again, I have never had a bad cheesesteak in Philadelphia.

26. That's like the Bushes in Connecticut
No one ever mentioned them when I was growing up in the 50s. Poppy was born in Massachusetts, but grew up in a big house in Greenwich. Who knew?

15. It's whatever the hell you like on it
Give me a break!

My family is South Philly through and through but they hate Geno's and Pat's both. I think they are both fine, even the Cheese Wiz one is fine with me.

Rudy is Italian and grew up in New York, he probably knows what a Philly Cheese Steak is, but who cares?

You can say what you want about him, I don't like the guy, but nobody is going to convince me that Rudy doesn't know more than the other candidates about Cheese Steaks, I'm just not buying it. And it wouldn't matter anyway.

It's just annoying. I mean I don't care if people talk about it, but don't extrapolate. What you put on your cheese steak or what you think belongs on it is not a reflection on your intelligence or "real guy"-ness.

Sheesh.

Cheddar! (OMG! Idiot!)

25. I'm From Chicago...What The Hell Do I Know?
We laugh here about places that serve "Chicago-style" Hot Dog and Pizza. To me, if it's not a beef hot dog (Kosher), it's not a hot dog and we call it either Deep Dish or Cardboard Pizza here. It's all perspective.

All I was looking for was lunch, not a political statement.

Cheers...

They have a statue of Rizzo, so I wouldn't put too much emphasis on who the city claims as its own.
