I have my shotgun because we have wild hogs in the woods behind our house, and also for self-defense. I live in an area that's not exactly the nicest area in Orlando. If someone decides they want to break into my house, I have every damned right to protect myself and my wife.

and I am an owner also. But, an agressive posture doesn't help us. It only serves to confirm what others think they know about gun owners. I don't want anybody lumping me into the same group as the criminals that are so publicized. I also try show that there are responsible owners. That we are not "ticking time bombs". Making comments that could be taken as threats is not the way to foster understanding.

And the OP seemed to be blatantly calling out gun-owners. Many of us firmly believe in our right to arm ourselves, for whatever purpose. I hate to use the "pry-it-from-my-cold-dead-hands" cliche, but that really is sort of how I feel sometimes.

I bite my tongue a lot, because there wouldn't be anything I could say. There is, unfortunately, a very anti-gun faction on the left. I accept it as part of the deal. But, I always try to clear up misconceptions wherever I can. It can't hurt to be an ambassador of responsible ownership. That being said, I am definitely a part of the "cold-dead-hands" group. As long as criminals have them, I will have them for defense. Period. And you would think that more people on the left would see the fascism rising in our country, and possibly consider going to the range for the first time, or taking a gun safety course.
