If you're out partying and are drunk or have friends that are drunk. Get a cab or make sure your friends get in a cab. Don't walk home in the winter no matter how close you might live. Alcohol can be very dangerous in cold weather despite its "warming" properties. I bring this little public service announcement up at this time because this weekend a 21 year old, a cousin of my wife's boss, was found frozen to death in a snowbank near his apartment. Apparently he was drunk and walking home and passed out. Tragedies like this don't need to happen.

Hypothermia has killed people in temperatures as high as the fifties so you need to be careful even if it doesn't seem that cold out. Thanks for the tip. Everyone likes to have fun, especially our young people, but we gotta look out for each other!

5. right you are...several 'round here have gone through the ice...

...disoriented, it may look to a seriously intoxicated person as the straightest route home. but the ice in many places is unstable, even after cold weather.
....driving on the ice while drunk is also a serious mistake...

6. Two words: Designated Driver.

I'm a designated driver ... I don't drink alcohol. Haven't for 16 years or so. My friends and family KNOW that they can call me anytime day or night for a ride - and I'll take 'em back to their cars the next day. When I'm along, I drive. I don't mind not drinking when others do - I like my lemonade or tonic and orange juice. Nobody should EVER drive when drinking. I'll do whatever I can to make sure they're safe - no strings.

There's little chance of snow in Orlando, but there are plenty of people willing to knife or shoot someone who is incapacitated. Easier to snag than sober people (although tourists being tourists, it's a tossup.)

Thank you for putting a human face on the people going to war. There are some people who would like to obliterate that face, and this particular time it's the people in power. You reminded us that they must be remembered.
