Anybody catch John Fogerty slamming Shrub on David Letterman last night?
John rocked out with a song reminiscent of anti-war anthems of the 60's, but this time it was all about BushCo's insane war machine and Shrub's ineptitude. "George" was called out by name in it several times, and it was far from flattering! Great guitar work/melody to boot. Pretty damn good for a 62 year old rock relic. The song is on his new album appropriately named - Revival

Anybody have a link or copy of that performance? Don't see it on YouTube yet.

1. I bought the album today
GET IT.

His best album since his CCR days. His most subtle anti-Bush song is "Gunslinger", and the most blatant is "I Can't Stand It No More".

6. My wife tells me there is a song on it called "Creedence Song" and THAT is brilliant
How many bands through the years have had one of their original songs on their set list titled "Creedence Song" until they can come up with a title? Many. And Forgety knows that. Brilliant.

10. When I listened to that one
I counted how many Creedence songs he invoked either lyrically or with phrases and licks... I am sure there are at least 6 or 7, but the two that stand out are "Looking Out My Back Door" and "Green River". He sounds genuinely liberated of the decades of legal hassles and headaches which took a toll on him.

"Gunslinger" should be paid careful attention to. Definitely a call to arms of a different sort. Best use I have heard of 'the wild west' as a metaphor.

11. I am very excited to hear that you consider it his best work since CCR
Fogerty was my first rockandroll hero. I can remember being a 10 yr old and combing my hair like him and running around in flannel shirts :)
A decade ago, my best friend opened several shows for him. He told me that he started babbling to Fogerty about buying a CCR 45 as a kid and bringing it home on his bicycle. And he was embarrased by his babbling. My reply? "Don't sweat it, man. Something tells me you're probably not the first to completely lose it when confronting the man in the flesh"

He's like Stephen Foster with an electric guitar.

12. He made flannel cool long before 1992
I can only imagine what your friend felt. :-)

On previous solo albums, he invoked CCR here and there - it would be damned hard for him NOT to.

But most of the material was a self-conscious effort to carve an identity separate from Creedence. The results could be good, but often mixed.

Now, even when some of the new songs don't measure up to Creedence (and it would be unrealistic to expect that much all the way through), they're unburdened of the self-consciousness that shackled his previous solo material.

We can thank Norman Lear, who bought Fantasy Records from Saul Zaentz, and restored Fogerty's rights to the songs for the first time since Nixon was in the White House.

Just in time, too.

9. There is no song that summarizes the essence of Bush more than "Fortunate Son".
