Chucklenutz and Congress are about to engage in some massive chest-thumping and head-butting over funding.

Today the Compassionate Conservative made good on his veto threat to expand the S-CHIP health care program, which would've covered twice as many uninsured children as in previous years. Sadly, it appears Congress lacks the 2/3 majority needed to overturn this cruel measure. Score anothr one for the heartless, war-hungry neocons.

Meanwhile, the House passed another overwhelmingly-supported bipartisan bill that would give The Decider two months to formulate a concrete plan for troopwithdrawal from Iraq. According to Reuters:"Under this bill, the defense secretary would have 60 days to present to Congress plans for withdrawing combat forces and making a transition from a military mission to one of counterterrorism and the training of Iraqi security forces. The legislation that passed the House 377-46, gathering votes from nearly as many Republicans as Democrats, would require the Pentagon to submit regular reports on withdrawal planning to Congress' defense committees."

Now it's up to the Senate to see if it can end the long-standing stalemate on any bill that even hints at troop withdrawl plans. What is wrong with the Senate? House Democrats are now promising that they will block Bush's astronomical $190 billion request for war funding unless it is linked to a plan for troop withdrawal. Only about 25 percent of Americans support Bush's killer war budget, while about 70 percent want the proposed funding reduced, a Washington Post-ABC News poll published on Tuesday said. With so much clear opposition from us American citizens, why the Senate gridlock?
