I lived in Salem for a lot of years (our state's capital as you know) and while Lars started his radio career over in Tillamook on the Oregon Coast (if I'm recalling correctly and I think I am) I don't think he ever did a radio show in Salem. He's been in Portland a long long time. Sorry, Portlanders!

And yep, Salem and Portland are within 40 miles of each other--not far at all, geographically. In other ways, there's a world o' difference!

Having "done time" there for a lotta years, I confess there's plenty to blame Salem for. Just not Lars Larson, though. Thank goodness for that!

Enjoy your stay in Portland. I put in considerable drive time on the I-5 'tween Salem and Portland for about 15 years seeking and finding my "culture fixss".

Also lived in Seattle eons ago, loved it, don't get there often enough anymore. Been all over the country, LOVE the Northwest best of all!

Yep, Lars helped mess up a lot of things in Oregon, while not directly circulating initiative petitions but rather pushing for their passage on his radio program, including the property tax limit that screwed up school funding. He tried very hard to screw up our public employees' retirement system but fortunately a court ruling intervened. Lars hates all public employees, retired or not. Maybe he tried for a state/county/college/whatever job and didn't get it and that's the root of his resentment. Never could quite figure it out, but have long since given up on him making any sense. Surprised he has an audience anymore, but he does get that national exposure now and again. Maybe he's the only neo-con in Oregon. That'd be nice!

It's strange how Lars brags about being Swedish, and yet he completely abandoned progressive principles, like the way they live back in Sweden. He totally rejects all that. Definitely loves the American cowboy mentality.
