http://www.atlargely.com/2007/10/bush-begins-the.htmlBush begins the new Iran talking points...Remember that we went to Iraq because of WMD? Then that changed to spreading democracy? And later still we were told some bizarre thing that we were in Iraq, "fighting them over there, so we would not have to fight them over here?"
In August I reported that the following new talking points would be employed (emph added):
"Two former CIA case officers interviewed said that the administration has zeroed in on the EFPs as proof positive of Iran's involvement in Iraq, despite lacking any direct trail to Tehran.
One former CIA case officer who served in the Middle East even suggested that politically framing the Iranians for its own failures in Iraq would allow the Bush administration to avoid accountability, as well as providing a casus belli for an attack.
The Bush Administration “can say it’s (the Iranians') fault we are losing the war in Iraq and that would be a convenient out for their failed policy,” the officer said Monday.
Speaking today at the Lancaster Chamber of the Commerce, the president said the following:
"There would be nothing worse for world peace, if the Iranians believe that the United States didn't have the will and commitment to help young democracies survive, that if we left before the job was done, there would be chaos," he said. "Chaos would embolden not only the extremists and radicals who would like to do us harm, but it would also embolden Iran. What you don't want is to have a nuclear arms race taking place in the Middle East.
