Clearing My Cache
...my mental one, anyway. Things just keep building up, and I occasionally need an outlet to "vent" them, so...

(1) Scarborough, as usual: This morning, he belittled the VoteVets soldier over his indignation about being compared to a "suicide bomber." No, Joe, the point that you're missing is that the soldier (I've momentarily forgotten his name) was talking about "thinking for himself"...not as a pawn for any organization. That's the central issue now. Rush's people are called "ditto-heads" for very good reason. They don't subscribe to the discipline of critical thinking...of thinking for themselves, even when it means holding dissenting views. Ditto-heads are only expected to listen and regurgitate what they hear. True, authentic liberalism, on the other hand, not only tolerates individual thinking, but expects it. Lovers of liberty also understand that freedom does not exist apart from responsibility and self-discipline...no ditto-thinking of any sort.

(2) The "liberal media" misconception: In the above context, I damn sure wish that the mainstreet media were indeed that liberal. That's supposed to be the American Way, isn't it? George Washington extolled the virtues of a "liberal and enlightened" age in which free-thinking people would work together--in unity instead of uniformity. Yes, let's do have true liberalism in the media, and let's not shy away from the word.

(3) At this point, I'm more steamed by Rush's continued use of the term "Mad Bomber of Bosnia" to describe Gen. Wesley Clark than about anything else. Where's the outrage about the disrespect for Wesley Clark? I guess it's just fine to take cheap shots at a former Supreme Allied Commander, but not a current general who had the very poor judgment to let himself become a...political...tool to do the President's bidding.

...I guess that's enough for now. I'll save the rest for when that sorely misguided Joe Scarborough shows his illiberal and unenlightened (ergo arguably unAmerican) biases again. Honestly, I don't know who is worse, Morning Joe or Tucker.

Your thoughts on the above?

3. Highly recommend that good cleaning should involve a good book, afterward
A Tale of Two Quagmires: Iraq, Vietnam, and the Hard Lessons of War

A collection of several authors' works. A great read. We forget how much crap this group of criminals has pulled off.

5. Thanks! Occasionally I see others here.
One uses a "chalice" avatar. Looking forward to seeing what the new UU ads in Time magazine look like. This national marketing campaign they're starting is the first one in fifty years. Glad to see that we're finally getting over the timidness and aloofness that has kept us so obscure and unknown for so long. Thanks again, CT Yankee!

6. I first learned
Edited on Thu Oct-04-07 08:25 PM by connecticut yankee
about Unitarianism from an article in Look Magazine in 1954. I think it would be wonderful to have people learn about what we are and what we stand for. I'm just afraid that our local Church will become too big.

We're not "timid and aloof." We just don't prothilisize. I have probably spelled the last word incorrectly, but I can't find it in any dictionary.
