Ever used the argument with a war supporter, that if a war is necessary,

the draft is necessary?

(This is for all those morans who are rah-rah about the Iraq War, but of course SOMEBODY ELSE should actually fight.)

2. I would rather have them explain why this war is necessary...
in 10 words or less. Without sounding like Genghis Kahn.

3. War is the result of failed diplomacy!
When our elected part time help fail to resolve conflicts diplomatically they have failed in their mission to serve the people.

4. Not the case in Iraq (of course, there's really no war there, just occupation.) Bush's wars are
the result of greed!

5. Sort of
When the Iraq war was first started, I discussed with someone about how you could easily get past the theoreticals regarding if the war is necessary or not, by thinking about whether you would fight it or have your children fight it.

6. no, but I've used the argument asking why that person didn't join the military
even said that to my own brother. He's 37 and fit and I asked him why it was okay for someone else to go, and why it would be any more "convenient for them" than it would be for him. (btw.. he was stunned into silence, not a usual occurrence.. I guess logic doesn't approach him often)

You see, when ppl argue it's necessary, I ask then why they think they can't get enough people to join it? Recruitment wasn't low after 9/11 for taking the fight to Afghanistan, they signed up to go get Osama and the radical group responsible. In WWII, people signed up, because they felt it was in true defense of our country and also helping out the many countries under attack from Hitler. Apparently, now being in Iraq, most ppl believe it's not in our defense or for saving others. If the majority of ppl did believe that it was necessary, those who believed in it, would be signing up.

I can't argue the draft regarding this war, not even have a debate on it. This war is NOT a necessary war, so I find that argument moot.

If we were looking at a necessary war, I'd argue that those who believe in the war should fight it, but I don't believe in "forcing" someone who doesn't, to be put into a "kill someone else or be killed" situation; I put that pretty high up there on the cruel and inhuman treatment category, but thats my personal take. I know some ppl feel differently. To each his own. I guess thats what it comes down to for me.
