50 bazillion fire trucks in front of my office this a.m. Choppers flying through airspace close to high rise buildings. Oh yeah. I really wanna be here today.

So-called "world's biggest fire drill" today in Phoenix

10:13 AM Mountain Standard Time on Thursday, October 4, 2007

By The Associated Press

PHOENIX -- Sixty buildings and 40,000 people.

That's what the Phoenix Fire Department says will be involved in what it's calling the "world's biggest fire drill."

Kim Martinez reports The drills began at City Hall this morning will be spread throughout the city all day and through the evening. Sixty buildings have been randomly picked, including 18 downtown and midtown buildings. Some are high-rise structures.

The goal behind the drill is to test evacuation plans and coordinate everyone so they can get out of the buildings without incident.

1. Sounds like great fun.
Will someone be selling hot dogs and t-shirts too? You know this needs a tee.

Maybe there will be street music too. Songs written for the occasion.

3. No, they can go to the ballpark tonight for that.
Amazing that they would choose to do something like this when there will be extra people around for the playoff games.

6. Timing is everything.
Maybe they should combine the two events and expand the drill to the playoffs. That way nobody would have to feel left out.

4. you know there is a terror drill there next week
it's called TOPOFF 4 and it will simulate 1-2 dirty bombs going off near 110 and either 210 or 220 (I forget the name). The drill is also going down in Guam and Portland OR.

http://rawstory.com/news/afp/US_to_test_response_to_massive_dirt_10032007.html

The United States will test this month its preparedness for a large scale terrorist attack with a dirty bomb, a Homeland Security Department official said Wednesday.

"TOPOFF 4" (Top Official 4), as the exercise is called, will be held between October 15-20, Deputy Administrator for National Preparedness Dennis Schrader told the House of Representatives Committee on Homeland Security.

The test will involve setting off fake "dirty bombs" -- combining conventional explosives with radioactive material -- in three locations: Oregon in the northwest, Arizona in the southwest and the US Pacific island territory of Guam.

"For TOPOFF 4, approximately 15,000 federal, state, territorial and local officials will participate in a robust, full-scale response to a multi-faceted terrorist threat," Schrader told the committee in a statement obtained by AFP.

It will "accurately simulate a truly national response to these major terrorist incidents" by emergency response teams, medical units, police forces and top government officials who will have to make difficult decisions to save lives.

5. That could catch on, I'm afraid.
We will be back to the "duck and cover" days. Instead of fire drills in schools, they may switch it to "terror drills" or maybe even "security drills."

Duck and cover, it's a sham.

7. Tin Foil Alert
Ok, today there are fire drills to evacuate people from buildings and next week there are terror drills. I hope and pray that no one puts anything in these empty buildings today that will be set to coincide with the drill next week. Something similar to this happened at WTC 1, 2, and 7 the first week of Sept 2001.
