Judge rejects Craig’s bid to withdraw guilty plea
By Elana Schor
October 04, 2007

A Minnesota judge on Thursday denied Sen. Larry Craig’s (R) bid to withdraw his guilty plea in the bathroom sex sting that upended his political career, adding new resignation pressure to the embattled Idahoan as he clings to office.

Judge Charles Porter of Minnesota’s Hennepin County court released a 27-page order calling Craig’s August guilty plea “accurate, voluntary, and intelligent,” adding that “the conviction is supported by the evidence.”

Craig may pursue an appeal, allowing him to stay in office while he seeks every available option to clear his name, but the ruling is likely to bring more calls for his departure from frustrated GOP leaders who had pressed him to step aside last week as originally planned.

You can now submit your resignation at any point! :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

20. Ruh roh is right....Will be interesting to see what poor Larry does now...
I will say that I am not surprised by this ruling.

Larry Craig is in so much denial its actually sad...I hope for his sake he can slip quietly away and actually come to terms with his homosexuality/bisexuality. The longer he drags this out, the more painful its going to be for him and his family. This judge just did him a favor.

4. It's resignation time, baby!
I did hope that he would hang on long enough for the next election and possibly replace him with a Dem.

30. Well, whoever is appointed to his senate seat will have to run again soon.
Hopefully, Idaho would vote in a Democrat at that time.

7. Good. Now the hypocrit will have to face reality.
Everyone knows who he is, and what he is.

Being a closet gay is the least of his worries. No one likes a hypocrit. He's also a traitor to his own. That's the worst kind of hypocrit.

I hope Sen. Craig hangs in there creating negative headlines for the GOP right on through the end of his term!

Atta boy, Larry!

17. Graig submits resignation on toilet paper he picked off the floor, then finally flushes
It was the inherent contradiction of picking up the non-existent TP on the floor and not flushing the evidence that convicted him.

21. that's kinda too bad
It would have been nice to see him properly convicted by a jury. But having him hang on is probably the best way for us to get a Democrat in that seat, because the voters are likely to convict him.

Twice on the pipe if the answer is no

Money can't buy you love. But it can buy justice.

I really should have done a Tony Orlando and Dawn parody when the Craig case started. It's begging for it!

33. Oh, he can drag this out for quite a while!
First, he can file a motion for reconsideration, which will take 10 days to file and probably two weeks to get a ruling denying it. Then he'll appeal, which will drag it out for at least a year or two ...

I say GO FOR IT, LARRY!!! DON'T GIVE UP THE SHIP!
