Duncan Hunter: We've Seen Illegal Aliens Herded into the Polls, Voting Illegally in California
U.S. Rep from the Golden State Makes Unsubstantiated Claim at Last Week's Republican PBS Debate...

At last Thursday's Republican Debate --- the one which the four Republican front-runners refused to attend --- sponsored by PBS and hosted by (egad!) African-American broadcaster, Tavis Smiley, the question of Photo ID restrictions on voters was raised by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution's Cynthia Tucker.

California Rep. Duncan Hunter's answer was interesting. And it's no small matter given that attempts to disenfranchise Democratic-leaning voters seems to be Strategy #1 (once again, but more so than ever) for the desperate GOP in 2008.

Hunter's imaginative answer to Tucker's question: "We have right now a real danger of people that are illegally in the country being rounded up, herded into the polls, we've seen that in California, voting illegally. That disenfranchises everybody in that community."

Really? Living out here in the Golden State, we hadn't heard of that one. And we do follow these issues fairly closely. So we checked with Hunter's campaign to find out if they could offer any examples of such illegal votes from herded aliens in our state...

2. What a bunch of crap. No one votes at the polls without being
on the registered voters list, which the poll workers check very carefully. I have voted in three different counties in California and they always look you up on the list first before they give you a ballot.

4. no kidding. what a LIAR.
i have never NOT been looked up on the list, having voted in four states over the last 34 years.

side note: i was at the ATM last night and there was a big Diebold truck parked there. one of the machines was being repaired. i asked the guy, "So, how come the ATM always gives me the right amount of money, but the voting machines can't count the votes right?" he gave me a very annoyed look. i asked him "So do you get asked this question a lot?" he rolled his eyes and said "Every day."

5. Shoulda pulled out a video camera, ya dunce!
If only they had some reasonable evidence of this phenomena! If only somebody would invent some device whereby you could record an illegal deed as it was being committed, and later play that back as evidence! If only!

9. As a precinct judge I can say he is a fucking liar. No way would we let
an unregistered person vote. They have to show ID and prove they live where they say they live.

22. As a former Registrar of Voters employee, I have to ask: Ever issued a "provisional" ballot?
Let me preface this with the caveat that I am NOT a supporter of Duncan Hunter, a republican, nor am I a troll:

NO ONE in the state of California is asked for "ID" per se. The CA elections code states that just about anything with a name and address on it is valid identification for voting. How do I know this? For two years I was OC's lead Poll Worker Trainer.

Anyone who thinks fraudulent voting doesn't take place is being willfully naive.

25. I know that fraud does go on, but I have never had to challenge a voter,
and at the most I think we have only issued one provisional ballot. We take four types of ID: PA DI CC SS otherwise we ask them to go home and get one.

Both parties watch the polls on the lookout for dirty dealing. So far, so good.

12. I might be dumb but...................
Think about this....you are an illegal alien. You hide from the law enforcement or any type of legal looking authorities.

BUT where you have to tell your name, show your voting card and sign when you vote you hop right to it...

How dumb do these republicans think we are. These illegals will stay as far from the voting booth as they can.

18. No, you are very intelligent--and correct.
No way on earth would they expose themselves that way. Here in Phoenix, the police have a terrible time because they can't get immigrant witnesses to crimes to come forward or victims to even report; they are that terrified of being caught or reported.

Consequently, they are major targets especially because they have only cash, too.

30. His statement is worded cleverly and deceptively. He actually said there's a
"danger" of it happening...worded badly (or well depending on your pov) to make it sound like it happened without actually being technically wrong if someone were to parse each word.

Regardless, it was a bad, disgusting, and polarizing statement that should have been taken apart by MSM (no offense to Bradblog)
