McCain To Deliver Keynote Speech For Creationists
Today is Darwin Day, commemorating the anniversary of Charles Darwin’s birth and of the publishing of On the Origin of Species. The National Academy of Sciences, “the nation’s most prestigious scientific organization,” declares evolution “one of the strongest and most useful scientific theories we have.” President Bush’s science adviser John Marburger calls it “the cornerstone of modern biology.”

Yet, on February 23, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) will be the keynote speaker for the most prominent creationism advocacy group in the country. The Discovery Institute, a religious right think-tank, is well-known for its strong opposition to evolutionary biology and its advocacy for “intelligent design.” The institute’s main financial backer, savings and loan heir Howard Ahmanson, spent 20 years on the board of the Chalcedon Foundation, “a theocratic outfit that advocates the replacement of American civil law with biblical law.”

McCain has an ambiguous record on whether he supports intelligent design in the science curriculum. In 2005, he said it should be taught:

Daily Star: Should intelligent design be taught in schools?

McCain: I think that there has to be all points of view presented. But they’ve got to be thoroughly presented. So to say that you can only teach one line of thinking I don’t think is - or one belief on how people and the world was created - I think there’s nothing wrong with teaching different schools of thought.

Daily Star: Does it belong in science?

McCain: There’s enough scientists that believe it does. I’m not a scientist. This is something that I think all points of view should be presented.

3. Creationist John McCain will regret his words,
especially when another issue should suggest the presentation of all points of view like, say, abortion, medical mariuana, withdrawal from IraqNam. . .

4. Go ahead John. Pander to the Religidiotic Right. It will make a very nice commercial
Nothing wrong with religion... but the idiots that think evolution is the "Devil's Work" can have you...and please, John...we want the footage of you making a pandering ass of yourself.

If you need additional lighting, extra camera production or stunning audio, let us know. We want this evidence in the best quality possible. That's because we are going to use your own stupid political "strategy" to make sure you lose in 2008.

5. Are these people too dumb to realize they're being played?
Edited on Tue Feb-13-07 07:59 AM by sparosnare
It's pretty easy to figure out McCain will say and do anything for support; he will speak in favor of intelligent design to get a nice fat contribution from Ahmanson.

"There's enough scientists that believe it does".

NO McCain, there aren't and you know it. Disgusting.

6. Should they also teach the geocentric universe...
alchemy, spontaneous generation, some base-8 math, the laying on of hands and astrology also as alternative viewpoints that should be represented, John?

Playing politics to curry favor with idiots while messing with our children's education is the lowest form of political pandering I could imagine (other than illegal war, I suppose).

18. You are absolutely right about McCain. I used to halfway respect
him back when he was opposing Bush back in the 2000 primaries, but he has totally sold out to the flying monkey right, to quote Malloy. That is what I get for having any respect for any Republican, anywhere, anytime.

8. go ahead, John, you've already killed yr chance of being prez
with your insane war-escalation stance. Make the leap to the dark side absolute with this latest craziness! Let the whole world see that there is something seriously wrong with your mentality and that you now are an Official Kook, in a league somewhere with Alan Keyes -- and we all know how well he does in elections!

11. Project Steve
Edited on Tue Feb-13-07 08:45 AM by Az
A couple of years ago the creationist camp release a list of 200 "scientists" that agreed with creationism. They thought this was a worthy number of scientists to make a statement. The Scientific community typically does not respond to such antics but this time they decided to do something. So they put out a call for all Scientists named Stephen(in honor of recently departed Stephen Gould) that agree with evolution to sign their list and they would publish it online.

To date there are over 787 Scientists named Steve that agree with Evolution.

16. Its easy to joke
But they are very organized and very determined. They believe they are fighting for their lives. And in truth they are. Our modern civilization is stripping bare many of their cherished beliefs. They are being marginalized by progress (social and scientific). If they wish to survive they will have to fight back. And that is just what they are doing.

Just watched the HBO documentary "Friends of God." Yes, they are the sociological equivalent of a cornered animal.

14. When it comes to pandering McCain is number 1
And it's not going to do him a lick of good. The base still hates him for McCain Fiengold, and all this pandering is sort of taking the shine of his former "maverick" status.

And he looks like a turtle.

How can you say "well I am not a scientist" but I think all points of view should be accepted. Aren't you forgetting something small that schools are supposed to teach called facts?!?!?
Should we now be teaching our kids that aliens put us on earth on from other planets because some people believe it. I can't say enough bad things about you spineless hypocritical (agents of intolerence now have valid points of view?) creep. :grr: :grr: :grr: :grr: :grr: :argh:
