“Sen. Graham…I consider you as cowardly as Rumsfeld, as Sanchez, & Miller" (Janis Karpinski)
Senator slams ex-general, but she was in the audience Michael Roston
Published: Tuesday February 13, 2007

................

In the Journal's Washington Wire blog, reporter Jess Bravin reports that former Brigadier-General Janis Karpinski and Senator Lindsey Graham were both in attendance at an event in Washington Monday night that the followed the screening of an HBO documentary by Rory Kennedy called "Ghosts of Abu Ghraib. However, Graham, a former Air Force lawyer, arrived after brief introductory remarks, and didn't know Karpinski had already been introduced.

As Graham spoke, he proceeded to declare that Karpinski, who commanded a military police unit that included the soldiers in the infamous Abu Ghraib photos, "got off easy with a demotion to colonel. She should have faced a court-martial," Bravin quotes him as saying

The moderator of the event offered Karpinski a chance to respond to the senator.

“Sen. Graham…I consider you as cowardly as Rumsfeld, as Sanchez, and Miller and all of them,” she said, referring to her superiors in the military and Defense Department. Karpinski claims she took the blame for a situation they created at Abu Ghraib.

1. Yes, Senator Graham....
...and how many minutes have you spent in combat, Senator? Oh, right, you were an Air Force lawyer, which means none.

4. Wow - thanks for posting.
Be sure to read the second link to the whole story. Karpinski actually asked for a court martial. She wanted the whole messy affair and herself on trial. The military just wanted her to crawl away and hide.

I hope they got the whole exchange between the Col. and Graham on tape. The article says she is from South Carolina - maybe she will go home and run against that little mouthy chicken shit.

12. Now that is interesting. Graham is attacking the person who
threatens "real" exposure of the machinations of this fascist administration. Methinks the Bushies are muscling Graham to do this. Just a hunch but Flimsy might have a skeleton or two in the closet.

A loud blast like he gave Karpinski is meant to flame hatred toward her.

Thanks for the close look.

5. I do too & in many ways worse. Graham has the power to hold the guilty
accountable but instead chose to create a law that protects them

7. Bet Old Lindsay Graham Didn't Expect That! He's good hitting people not around to defend themself
I've watched him mount his own personal attacks on people not present, who he knows do not have an opportunity to defend themselves from his attacks.

IMHO he needs to go just as much as Bush since he goes around portraying himself as a reasonable senator, and just promotes the Bush agenda-- even though he throws out a zinger every now then pretending to hold Bush accountable.

People like Graham are just as dangerous as those operating in the shadows.

9. I, for one, will always remember Graham's brave role in asking Alito the $64 million question.
It takes true courage to ask, "Are you a closet bigot?" knowing that you will cause a melodramatic scene of Alito's wife bursting into tears and fleeing the hearing, thus ensuring the Dems will retreat from their attack.

:sarcasm:

Let's not forget the little political game that Graham, McCain and Warner played with the "anti-torture" bill that turned out to be largely a smoke screen.

17. Senator Graham, I'd like two eggs over easy and wheat toast.
I believe that's about as much as he could contribute to the armed forces.
