Prosecutor charged in sex sting kills self in cell
A Federal prosecutor from Florida accused of flying to Detroit last month to molest a 5-year-old girl committed suicide in his cell Friday in federal prison, authorities said.

Assistant U.S. Attorney John D.R. Atchison was found unresponsive, taken to a hospital and pronounced dead, said Felicia Ponce, spokeswoman for the Federal Bureau of Prisons in Washington. A previous suicide attempt was foiled in September, according to authorities.

Atchison was being held in a special housing unit in the prison in Milan, about 36 miles southwest of Detroit.

The administrative detention area houses all levels of prisoners, and Atchison had a cell to himself, Ponce said.

She declined to say how Atchison killed himself or whether he was on suicide watch, saying the death was being investigated.

Atchison, 53, was arrested last month at Detroit Metropolitan Airport after weeks of Internet conversations between the prosecutor and a detective posing as the mother of a 5-year-old girl, authorities have said.

4. I think a lot of people will say what you said, but...
...now it will be more difficult to find out who else he may have victimized. If this is the case I think it is, I remember he had implied to the undercover officer that he had done it before.

3. Good
One less sick fucker in the World is always a good thing in my book.

Especially Child Molesters....

Assistant U.S. Attorney John D.R. Atchison

This is guaranteed to make you vomit on your lunch….

John David Roy Atchison, Asst US Attorney in Northern Florida lists himself as a “family man”, he’s president of the Gulf Breeze Sports Association, a youth athletics organization and he’s been arrested in Detroit, MI by the FBI.

In the sting, he coerced the undercover agent who was acting as a mother of a five year old girl into letting him have sex with the child. Atchison and the undercover agent have a lengthy dialog on record as he tried to convince the “(agent) mother” to allow him access to the child for sexual intercourse. During the conversations between the two; Atchison promised the fake-parent that he wouldn’t ever (sexually/medically) “damage” the girl and he explained that he’s done this many time before.

In the deposition, detectives said Atchison suggested the mother tell her daughter that “you found her a sweet boyfriend who will bring her presents” (as a lure for the “child” to look forward to his arrival).

The undercover detective expressed concern about physical injury to the 5-year-old girl as a result of the sexual activity. Detectives said Atchison responded, ” I am always gentle and loving; not to worry, no damage ever, no rough stuff ever. I only like it soft and nice.”The undercover detective asked how Atchison can be certain of no injury. He responded, “Just gotta go slow and very easy. I’ve done it plenty,” according to detectives.

7. Justice served?
I think most would have preferred that Hitler been tried at Nuremberg and would have been preferred that this monster been tried as well.

We will never really know what motivated this monster which is one of the purposes of a trial. To try to find out why.

Justice has not been served.

12. I don't see anyone's death as a reason to cheer. Anyone.
Hitler's death did not bring back 6 million Jews. He never stood trial, and thus justice was not even served. I'll cheer for justice served--there's a fine line here, but a critical one.

Cheering anyone's death accomplishes naught but feed your primal need for revenge, and we can agree that's counterproductive, can't we?

11. Given that the only crime that was committed
was a conspiracy -- that no one was, in fact, harmed -- I think you're pretty quick on the trigger, podner.

No, I don't think sick amoral fucks who haven't (as far as we know) harmed a soul deserve the death penalty.

Do you?

8. No way, this was FAR too easy on him.
I would have preferred he festered in a dark cell for thirty years contemplating his actions.

10. I bet the guards looked the other way too.
Just like with prison rape.

This is completely unacceptable.
