I've had it with CNN.
Broadcast AND fucking web site.

First off, they have that dipshit loser, Glenn Beck and the harpy, Nancy Grace.
Both with really shitty ratings, but they keep them on anyway.

Second, their fucking web site ALWAYS locks up my computer, with the ads.

CNN is simply a big disgrace.

1. I don't watch it anymore. Not since--oh sometime last Spring.
I got so disgusted with the sleaze and sensationalism. It was like reading the National Enquirer. And they are too far to the right.

Meanwhile MSNBC is moving more and more to the left. Dan Abrams is better than Scarborough in what was his old time slot. Tweety has stopped fawning over Bush (at least for now), and Olbermann's shows keep getting better. I wish he'd ditch the entertainment news, though; who cares?

8. LOL I stopped watching CNN in Dec 2005.
Ok I watched it twice since then to see Al Gore twice.

But this December it will come to 2 years since I stopped watching CNN. I watch CSPAN and Countdown with Keith Olbermann, basicly the only program I watch on MSNBC..

19. I actually tuned out back in 2000 after the stolen election
Edited on Sat Oct-06-07 07:51 AM by deutsey
That's when I started getting my news from more progressive sources. Especially after the inaugural protests were basically ignored by most mainstream media (there were huge crowds of anti-Bush protesters in the streets) I knew the media deck was stacked against us.

On edit: Prior to 2000, btw, I was suspicious of corporate media and subscribed to In These Times, Harper's, Utne Reader, and other publications as a way to balance what I saw on mainstream news. After I saw what happened during the recount and inaugural protests, though, I decided most corporate "news" under Bush was either distraction or propaganda. In seven years I haven't seen where that's changed on CNN. Kudos, though, to MSNBC for Olberman.

31. You limit your sources of news at your own peril
I watch every single news channel I can, and living in New York, I have access to many wonderful newspapers. I read the news on the internet and so on. Being proud about deliberately shutting yourself off from even a source of opposition propaganda is like dropping out of junior high. You should be ashamed of yourself.

Yeah, I'm glad you know me so well to make such a broad judgment. :sarcasm:

Who are you to tell me to be ashamed of myself? I read and watch news from many various sources (including, but not limited to, my local TV station and newspaper--both of which, incidentally, lean rightward). I also watch BBC World News every day. I didn't feel I needed to log everything I read and watch in this post to meet your approval.

Personally, I don't need to waste my life fretting about the latest missing white bride or what latest crime OJ committed or the tragedy of Britney Spears losing custody of her kids, etc. I choose to focus more on substantive progressive sources is all. I'm well aware of the corporatist viewpoint and I just don't need to waste my time watching CNN and FOX, thank you very much. But you go right ahead and do that if you'd like. :eyes:

40. Ummm...CNN is not news. It is celebrity-corporo infoganda and so factually misleading
Edited on Sat Oct-06-07 12:10 PM by tom_paine
usually by lies of omission and suppression (which seem to be the template and cornerstone of this new kind of totalitarianism which doesn't have a name yet, but which I call BushPutinism, after it's founding fathers), that it is nauseating.

If I want to know what Brittany and OJ are up to, I will watch Cable Infoganda. If I want to listen to Bushevik Propganda delivered virtually unabated and unaltered...up until recently completely unchallenged, now only slightly challenged by a brave few, I will tune in.

But ultimately, it comes down to this. If I want to NOT know about the most pressing issues in our nation, while at the same time being given half-information cherry-picked so that a predetermined conclusion is innoculated in the minds of of millions (oh, if they only had that one key FACT that was mysteriosuly always missing from Corporate Infoganda Broadcasts, for at least the last 10 ears and probably before OJ Part I.)

I understand and respect your position, but I must inform you that CNN is NOT news, not even close. watch the BBC some night, and let your mind remember what the media of a Free Nation looks like. You have slid into this new reality like the frog in the slowly warming water.

If I was in 1937 Germany (which, in many ways, we all are), would I read Der Sturmer to keep up with all angles of news. If I was in 1974 Soviet Russia, would I read Pravda to get a "fair and balanced" view from a variety of sources? Eh?

Now, I am guessing you would probably agree with me that Fox "News" is a version of these two publications brought back to life, but what makes CNN Infoganda much more perncicious is that so many still view is as something fundamentally different from Fox, which it is not. Oh there are some cosemtic differences, but you really need to shake the cobwebs and understand the New Bushie Reality they have created and that CNN, while not as overtly as Fox, IS PART OF IT, helping and enabling it at almost every step of the way for ten years and more, since the ridiculous Clinton Impeachment.

Hell, even al-Jazeera English has better journlaistic presentation and talent than CNN (the Daily Show's Samanthat Bee did a wonderful sendup of that a few months ago...and the simple fact that these days one gets more news from comedy shows than one does from Cable TV "news" is deeply disturbing, but astonishingly, sickeningly true).

So, your point is well taken, and if CNN was a worthwhile source of information, in which all facts of the story are presented, not just those which lead to a predetermined Bushie conclusion (most of the time, at least 70%), I would agree.

But your premise is faulty.

41. My premise is not faulty
if you had read Der Strumer in 1937, you probably would have had a much better idea of what the future held than if you didn't.

You don't need to believe any of this shit, but you do need to know what all the players are saying. It's not just our side that makes the rules, and calls the plays. You have to stay informed.

42. I choose to stay informed in other ways than Der Sturmer or CNN
Edited on Sat Oct-06-07 04:39 PM by tom_paine
I don't need to know what those folks are saying. I know it with my eyes closed, and it sickens me to watch it.

I will "watch" them through the watchers, DU and MediaMatters and the rest, and I have always occasionally peered in just to see the devolution of it all, they never disappoint within 15 minutes of tuning in...the fact that I don't watch it every day, week or even month causes the insanity to be thrown into much sharper, starker relief, than if I was watching daily and slowly acclimatizing my mind to the Newspeak, Doublethink, and other forms of Bushie Madness. But I will not subject myself to televised madness five days a week or more (which is esentially the definition of Cable TV Infoganda, especially the loathesome punditocracy).

We must agree to disagree. Besides, it's important that SOMEBODY watches it, so that the rest of us can learn about the further evolutions of Infoganda Madness.

For that you do have my thanks and the thanks of a grateful nation for the mental injury and stupefication you risk by watching it, and I do mean that.

44. LOL. Mynamarians showing the Imperial Subjects of Amerika how to be free...
not that such surprises me anymore.

I am constantly reminded of something the Ghost of Christmas Present said to Dickens' Dick Cheney

It may be that this poor man's child is more worthy in the sight of God than you and all your money.

Similarly, there can be little doubt that those brave monks and those Mynamarians shutting of THEIR Bushie Lies are also more worthy in the sight of God (if God values freedom and Liberty over Tyranny, which has not been establish given their relative frequencies of appearance) than 95% of our overfed, mentally and physically atrophied, morally-cowardly-as-a-1937-German, Fellow Imperial Subjects of Amerika in 2007.

But we few Americans loyal to the Constitution, and our braver, more active (they are less comfortable and have less material wealth to lose, so action comes easier...I am not judging either way, only pointing out another inconvenient truth of why the Bushies are STILL in power, seven years and hundreds of felonies later) Mynamarian spiritual brethren (if we had one-tenth the guts of these people or the Chinese in Tienanmen Square, Bush and Cheney would be wearing orange jumpsuits in Supermax next to Gotti's corpse) carry our freedom in our hearts and minds.

Where Bushie or Mynamarian Tyrants cannot touch it.

7. How to help with the ads
This is not intended to start a browser war. First, download and install the Firefox Browser:
http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/

When Firefox is installed, install these two extensions:

AdBlock Plus
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1865

and the AdBlock Filterset.G:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1136

You should not have any more problems with CNN's ads.

I agree about CNN's programming. They keep catapultin' the propaganda.

12. Watch But Verify
I used to live CNN 24/7 in the 80's and early 90's. Now if I watch for an hour, that's a lot. It's least common denominator televison...cheap, sensationalized and generalized. Very little real reporting or substance, just recitation of talking points...news cheapened to titliate or antagonize...draw eyes like a car wreck. But it's part of the culture thus you can't ignore it...just be aware of what it's doing.

If you want serious news, there are many other sources to find it and then use it to compare what you see/hear. Anyone who takes that stuff at face value or considers it nothing more than "fast food" news will be either outraged or disappointed.

And I kinda liked Sanja after the story of him performing surgery in Iraq, saved a soldier's life. And that incident exposed the desperate straits that exist in Iraq...:-(

Cafferty is a big hit here, too, and sometimes putting up with Blitzer is worth it to see him. One of my favorite Cafferty moments was when they showed footage of Cheney visiting Mississippi after Katrina and some guy in the crowd shouted "Go F*** Yourself!" at Cheney. Cheney claimed to the reporter that he'd "never heard" such a thing, but when they switched back to Cafferty he set the record straight, that Cheney had said the same thing on the Senate floor, LOL! I was so excited that he said what we were all thinking that I posted a thread here on DU!:D

16. I totally agree with you. CNN may claim to bring us the latest news,
but MSNBC has beaten them to the punch, recently, plus they have Keith Olbermann. We rarely turn on CNN anymore since it usually results in shouting at the TV, Blitzer, Tony Harris, Dana Bash, any of the Bush* apologists that they employ. I used to watch Aaron Brown, since I thought that he was pretty even-handed and had liberals on and let them speak, and look what happened to him...:-(

I have totally lost it at CNN more than once, and fired off an angry e-mail, like the time that they broke away from Kerry giving a live speech in front of the Senate to show taped footage of a senator with the opposing view, "for balance," the talking head said, and when Carol Costello was whining about the unwarranted criticism of a "fellow journalist," Jeff Gannon...:grr:

The only talking heads on CNN that are actually looking out for the interests of the working class USA. True populists they are. Blitzer and his other loser cohorts are constantly trying to drum up hatred for Iran that will draw us into another war.

Dobbs has been missing in action and has likely been removed by the powers that be that prefer the status quo, and the Bush administration. They say he had his tonsils out, but that's been a month or more.

Hello

It is a nother "news channel" who really are about NEWS in the business.. Its british, and the name is the British Broadcasting Company. The "mother" of all european news channels/newsnight... BBC WORLD SERVICE is good, pretty balanced and they both cloth themself desent, AND speak proper engelish....

So if you have BBC world in your cabelnet try to tune in, and have the channel in the background.. Mutch better then to have CNN on the TV..

I dont know if peopole in US have BBC world, they do have something they are called BBC-america then, but that it for news from " a amrican perspective" So I am not that sure about the contens of the whole thing.. I prefer BBC-WORLD myself.. Exelent news channel..

39. I can't believe you put up with that bullshit for this long
I have had those Cable TV Infoganda channels deleted from my remote control and have watched very little sice early 2001.

Although recently, because of Keith Olbermann, I re-added MSNBC to my remote. And other than KO's show, whenever I might linger on their other crap, I feel my brain stupidifying. I am considering re-romeving it, even though it means I'll probably miss some KO shows because I am notchannel surfing over them.

If you are serious about eliminating that bullshit from yoru life, that's step #1:

Delete thall those Cable TV Infoganda Station from all your remote controls. It won't prevent you from viewing them if you enter the channel number, but it will prvent, to an incredible degree, you're getting sucked into to watching their hypnoinfoganda.

Try it, you'll like it.
