I haven't posted or read DU for awhile, but as I start back here I am discouraged...
I realize that we all feel encouraged at how obvious it seems that the dems will take back the White House in 08; but I am a bit concerned...

For the last 8 years, the right has had one strategy - STICK TOGETHER! - however one-track minded that seems, it has worked.

I am concerned that the good people of the DU community are too divided on this vital upcoming election and must all stand together - no matter how much it hurts...we all seek one goal.

Look, I understand that as open minded, progressive thinkers we all have out own opinions...but I think that harsh times, require harsh measures...I am not saying to put aside your opinions completely, but I am afraid that if we ALL don't stand together, we may lose again to the simple, one track minded "folks" that seem to contaminate this country.

Agreed?...or am I out of line?

Steve

PS (I started a new job that doesn't allow "partisan political" website to be viewed during work hours...which is fine - this is why I have not taken in DU for a bit)

3. That really isn't what I am trying to say
...and I don't have an answer as to how we are supposed to pick a candidate to support and ALL agree on; but if Hilary is the front-runner, than dammit support her; I'm not talking about after she gets nominated for the dem ticket...but I don't know the answer either.

Maybe I am scared to death of a 2004 replay, but I am just freaked that after the dem front-runner gets announced, that a bunch of otherwise motivated people are going to drop out...and the results could be bad.

That's all...I do happen to be drinking; so cut me come slack; will ya? :toast:

2. Looks to me like the new "strategy" is HATE HILLARY
If you do not hate Hillary Clinton, or her husband, you simply do not deserve to use fresh water or air.

10. Wow. Sure fooled me.

I thought we were required to bow down obediently to her inevitability and genuflect at her droppings. :eyes:

I expect every DUer under the age of 40 who supports her to enlist and replace the troops in Iraq in 2010 since Hillary will have adopted the military occupation there. In fact, I think an early enlistment would be appropriate. After all, if we pull the troops out then y'all would have nothing to worry about, right?

4. We tried that strategy once, and it failed
Remember ABB ("Anybody But Bush"), when we all rallied behind John Kerry? Then he wussed out instead of at least fighting the election theft, as Al Gore did.

I knew way back then that Dems would be a LOT more fiercely questioning and selective, before picking their candidate for 2008. Never again will anybody get a free ride like John Kerry did.

Sure, it may seem harsh, but this is the selection process. Primaries are ALWAYS tough, and this one is doubly so because most people don't want to fall into the ABB trap again, and start backing one candidate too soon. Yes, HRC has the lead right now, but things can change drastically when the primary elections/caucuses actually start taking place.

The pro-Hillary whiners need to get over it. The front-runner ALWAYS gets the most attacks--it's part of the job description. Just ask Howard Dean. I'm not saying it's wrong to support Hillary, just that the Hillary supporters are expecting everyone else to embrace her with open arms and treat her with kid gloves.

Sorry, but politics just doesn't work that way.

8. Exactly. Too early to assume
the Democratic Party is Hillary, and Hillary is the Democratic Party.

5. If by sticking together you mean join in with the GOP and Dem corporatists
Why bother?

But if you can convince the DLC/BlueDogs/NewDems to give up their robber baron ways and stop partying with the GOP and finally join with Dem Progressives for the common good, then I'm with you.

6. If you can't beat'm, join'm?
Isn't the Republican strategy of sticking together exactly what got us in to this mess? Would we be where we are today if Republicans had been just a _little_ more critical towards their own leaders?

Is the country better off with TWO groups who blindly follow the leader?

Just changing the color of the name tags isn't going to change a damn thing without a change in policy and strategy.

7. Well, I agree with you. Then again, I am still an undecided voter.
The partisans are getting incredibly shitty here, lately. Mean, nasty, and insulting to one another.

It's unfortunate. I wish they'd modulate their tones, because they'll have to work together come the general elextion....
