Poll question: Is the 2008 Election already lost (i.e. Diebold)
I asked this question before the 2006 elections and was informed that yes it probably was.

Are we going to lose in 2008?

Postscript - I don't want to imply that I don't favor tightening up our voting procedures - I do. However I don't think that there is some all powerful cabal running our voting - rather than one big problem I think our voting problems stem from a thousand little problems.

is it already time to wave the white flag for Nov 2008?

2. more like it's already won...
whoever emerges from the 'two' political parties will be of the peoples choosing...but it will be the 2%'ers doing the choosing.

3. It's hard to say at this point.
But when you have STUPID Dems like Ohio's new Secretary of State making decisions to continue to use these crap voting machines despite the overwhelming evidence they are not accurate, and can flip elections, it's a concern.

Given the fact that evidence now shows Kerry likely got a lot more votes in Ohio, possibly enough to carry the state, were it not for these vote stealing machines, there's a real problem when people want to continue using them.

I expect more from Democrats, especially after the events of the last 6 years, but their reluctance to strap on a pair of balls and make substantial changes to protect the interests of the American people is a big cause for anger and frustration.

IMHO, that's where the "action" will be...

5. Maybe... They're certainly going to try to cheat again, but there's more eyes on them.
We won in 2006 because we had our eyes open. The GOP certainly wanted to cheat, but because so many people were aware of what happened in Florida and Ohio, and so many people have heard about the problems with DRE voting machines from Diebold and others, they couldn't get away with much. That, and because the people were so royally pissed off at the GOP that the 4-5% of the votes they did steal weren't enough for them to win.

The GOP's hoping that 2006 etched into the minds of most Americans that voting problems were "overblown". That is certainly not the case. Those voting machines still have problems, though thankfully, more and more states are in the process of decertifying the machines and replacing them with more trustworthy equipment. But if we become complacent and think we've solved the problems with our elections, we'll find yet another election stolen from under us. We need continued vigilance.

8. We also won in 06 because the machines weren't tilted enough.
I suspect that they figured if they added 2% to the 5% tilt already there, they'd be able to swing the mid-terms. They weren't banking on the Foley story coming out AFTER they had to program the machines for the elections (the month before the elections), so they didn't tilt the pinball machine enough. The landslide was too great for them. A good site here is Ron Baiman's: www.electiondefencealliance.org

The Dem candidate in 08 will definitely get more votes than the Repub candidate. The only question is how much more. If the Dem doesn't win by more than 8%, the Dem will probably lose. And there's the problem with the individual states: GA, FL, AL are already in the bag for the R's no matter who runs or what the actual vote is. Diebold runs GA and there are so many corrupt officials in FL and the machines can be so easily patched and hacked by insiders that it's pretty well in the bag for the R in FL no matter what the pre-election polls show or the exit polls or any other measurement of the actual vote shows.

9. Good question, and I sure hope some Dems are working on getting receipts
for the machines so that we can at least have a paper trail.

10. 2008 will be a good year
The Republicans are in bad shape and it's not going to get any better for them. We will elect a Democratic President in 2008, and control of the Senate and House will be strengthened. There are 21 Republican Senators up in 2008 and only 12 Democrats.
