Poll question: Should Nancy Pelosi resign as Speaker of da House?
I believe that she should do so, next week.

6. It does, and it would be a really great way to
encourage many of us to stick with an unappealing nominee next year, if we knew that SOMEONE operating from a position of power would do something with it.

With DK as speaker, all the issues that so many Democrats have ignored would definitely be "on the table," again and again, for as long as it takes.

I can see a bright future: for all who just won't back DK, not because of issues, but because of "electability," how about campaigning for Pelosi's resignation and replacement by DK, along with the nomination of Al Gore for the general election? That sounds like a combination I could really get behind. :)

If Pelosi resigned now, perhaps her district could stay in Democratic hands, rather than facing a challenge from Sheehan that many pissed off California liberals might be likely to support.

8. Except it is highly unlikely that a majority would elect him as speaker

4. You would prefer Majority Leader Steny Hoyer perhaps?
Or Democratic Caucus Chair Rahm Emanuel? Those are the two most likely to succeed Speaker Pelosi if for some reason she steps down.

5. I prefer Kucinich.
Of course, that is not likely. It is not even likely that she would step down.
I posted this merely so people here could voice their feelings of frustration with her.

7. So give me some instances where a MAN could do better
I didn't know that a speaker could single handedly bring the house to vote on what they wanted. I did not know that the speaker of the house was personally responsible for bills passed and bills shelved. Damn makes them more important than the president.

9. I would advocate that a man with her track record as Speaker
step down, as well. It has nothing to do with her being a female. She has caved in to Busholini on just about everything. Even if she could not have rallied the House members to stand firm on the Iraq Supplements & the Spying bills, at least she should have tried. She didn't do so.

10. Why should she?
Sure, there are the usual "answers", she didn't push impeachment; she didn't stop the war immediately; etc.

Does anyone think it is easy herding cats?

No one seems to see what has been done already, such as bush's Cabinet has been flayed; bush is in a corner because of investigations into many things he has done; cases are being built and alliances as well.

There is no "Magic Wand" in politics. Except in the most extreme cases is something done immediately. The primary drive should be to get more seats in the House in the upcoming election, something I can see happening if all of this divisiveness and sniping ceased for about 3 days.

Pelosi has outflanked this administration and is winning on several fronts. One of the most important being that this Administration be seen for the horror it is. The effort is to get a Congress that will take back their Constitutional duties, she is working on that.

What we, as citizens, should be doing, is getting in touch w/our Congresscritters and let them know we want change, R or D makes no difference, they NEED to hear from US if they are going to line up.

Pelosi will not step down, nor should she. All one has to do is look at how divided we are on DU...multiply that x10 as to what she has to deal with in the House.

17. But the Impeachment Marching and Chowder Society...
around here will never understand what it means to be Speaker at a time like this. Or at any time, for that matter.

So we have 35 vote or so majority, at best, in the House and no practical majority in the Senate, with around 400 congresscritters having been RE-elected to do what they've been doing for years and the whiners expect immediate satisfaction of all their personal wishes? Pelosi's had a whole NINE MONTHS to solve all the problems and kick Shrub out-- what's taking her so long?

Yeah, a lot of people favor getting rid of Shrub on a poll, but few actually want to go through with all the bullshit surrounding an impeachment. And most people want to end the Mess-O-Potamia but few can agree on how to do it. But blame Pelosi for it all-- much easier than thinking.

15. Waxman, Leahy & Conyers have been working but
without issuing Inherent Contempt, not much progress will be made. Pelosi is making excuses for her lack of strength in her job. Dems in Congress are not cats. They are mostly lap dogs.
