Hoyer Behind Pushing Bush legislation to floor votes
This post about Progressive Dems in the House stopping Hoyer from bringing the FISA bill to the floor for a vote confirmed what I thought all along. Hoyer is the leader in rolling Bush legislation out of committee and forcing Dems to vote on it. The man is a menace. Time and again, bad legislation deemed to make Dems look bad if they vote against it is being forced to the floor instead of being bottled up in committee. And who's behind it? Not the GOP, its Hoyer. Can't Pelosi control this situation?

5. Sure does seem that way, and I'm getting
tired of giving her the benefit of the doubt. She's not acting very leaderlike to me.

7. I don't think she's complicit
as much as she is such a weak leader she believes their BS and thinks Dems will lose the majority w/o their fundraising help.

Hoyer and Emmanuel are very threatened by growing influence of grassroots Dems in campaign donations. They're lining up tons of corporate money for Dems and are using that to intimidate Pelosi. She needs to ignore their bull and take charge. Dems will get funded and they will maintain the majority without enacting Bush's agenda.

6. Part of their control is fundraising for members
That's why I don't give to the DCCC any longer. Hoyer and Emmanuel seem to have the Dems in Congress bullied into thinking they're dependent on them to raise funds for their races. The biggest threat to their cabal is grassroots fundraising - they must have been alarmed to see the growing influence of grassroots Dem donations in the last few elections.

Emmanuel has been working overtime to shift corporate funds from the GOP to Dems, not so he can help the party, but because he wants to use it to control the votes of Dems in Congress. He was unsuccessful in getting many DLC Dems elected in 06, so his strategy is to control those elected through his fundraising.

I'm not comfortable at all with the gloating over the massive shift in corporate funds from GOP to Dems, its very disturbing. Its Emmanuel and Hoyer's way of undercutting the influence of grassroots Dems and pressuring Dems in Congress to hew to the Bush agenda.

8. As I remember it, Pelosi did not want Hoyer. He was foisted on her by
the other dems, when he beat her choice Murtha. Hoyer and Emmanuel are definitely part of the problem.

9. You're right, but why the silence from her? I realize they're trying
to present a united front, but if there are fundamental differences between them, I want to know about it. Otherwise, my opinion of Pelosi continues to sink. Not that she cares...

11. Very enlightening information for those of us who don't know the inside
workings of Congressional leadership and their fiscal influencers. Thanks for helping understand where the problem is. What can be done to remove Hoyer from that power position?
