What would happen if Al Gore WON many Primaries and was still undeclared?
With all the hyperbole on will Al, could Al, or please Al run; I have a theoretical question. It's a long shot, but what if the good folks at http://DraftGore.com are successful the mission of getting Al's name on many ballots across the country. Big states such as Michigan and California are real possibilities (for example) and I know there is work here in my home state of Washington to do the same.

What would happen if after the primaries, Al has a bunch of primary victories? Imagine a best case scenario. I assume delegates would go to the Dem Convention next August as his delegates even if he is not in the race (please correct)? If Al Gore has a LARGE contingent of delegates, are we looking at the possibility of a brokered convention?

Imagine Al has bus loads of delegates unloading in Denver next August, could he wait all the way till the Convention before making a dramatic entrance and declaring? At the very least, even if Al never declares - it seems those delegates could impact the Party Platform.

Just wondering....

p.s. Good article here on the many who do not see an Al candidacy as simply wishful thinking.

1. I can't imagine him getting more than 10% in ANY primary
if he's not a candidate.

The notion that there's a great desire out there to elect Gore just isn't true.

A poll the other day listing him as a candidate put him at 12% support, in third or fourth place.

3. In most (all?) places, he can't be listed on the ballot without his permission.
Failing to obtain that, Gore enthusiasts could only
run a write-in campaign, and they are *VERY* tough
to do successfully.

2. If he declares, I suspect he'll get it
otherwise, I doubt it.

He's really our last hope, though...if we even have one.

4. I think it's all going to be GOOD,GOOD, GOOD!
no matter what. And naysayers, don't worry about us saying We Told You So, because we who want to get Gore re-elected will be far too busy celebrating to care what you think!

6. Nothing...because since he does not under any circumstances
wants to run for president and the people of this country (most that is) realize that, they are not going to vote for him and waste a vote in the primary.

7. He will repeat W.T. Sherman's remarks...
"If nominated I will not run,
if elected I will not serve."

Or words to that effect.

...the guy doesn't want to be president...

8. I think what people are holding on to...
Is Al has stated many times he has not "ruled out" politics in the future - but has "no plans" to run for President in 08. There is enough ambiguity in "not ruled out" to feed to dream makers. It seems (or so people want it to seem) as if Al has left the door open just a tiny crack. If a million or 10 million people marched to Al Gore's doorstep and begged him to run - would it matter? Only Al knows if there is some fantastic scenario that could change his mind - and obviously he would not want to reveal that.
