3. Boycott of elections!!!!!!!!
Is anyone else thinking what I'm thinking?

Do you realize what we can accomplish if we, as Democrats, refuse to vote in the upcoming election? We demand paper ballots. We demand the troops come home.

I can see problems with it, but this post has given me something to think about.

4. Much has been written on this topic. Check out what's already out there.
None of it has convinced me that this is a good idea. Though I haven't ever heard discussion about boycott of primaries. If you find anything on that, I'd be particularly interested in hearing about it. In general, I think an election boycott--particularly the individual kind, meaning people just not voting--plays into the hands of the ruling elite.

7. Of others, of course. If I did that then people would run screaming and retching.

:dunce:

It's SOLELY based on my concerns and consideration for other human beings. Solely.

(Once upon a time I was able to do nude sunbathing without such concerns. No more.)

And it could be helpful, in some circumstances.

May your self-image improve, my dear.

19. But(t)
Sitting down is only an "alternative to obedience" when people are told to stand up or move about. Given that our government is telling us to sit down (or go shopping, or "move along, there's nothing to see here"), I don't think it counts!

20. If I sit down instead of shopping, that counts.
I'm not sure that marching with Code Pink in Berkeley counts because everyone seemed to approve. Traffic stopped so we could cross the road and the cops waved.

lol

23. Can I sit in the Food Court?
That's actually the moment I knew we were in deep doodoo, when the resident moran told us to go shopping. Haven't been in a mall since, come to think of it, except once last year to prove I still could go to a mall.

They routinely take down the highway sign that points to their town so tourists can't find it! Haven't checked lately, but as far as I know, they're still doing it.

Is it a pun?

Does it mean everyone goes out on the highway and stalls their cars?

Or what?

28. # 159 – In mourning and solidarity
International period of fasts, in mourning and in
solidarity with the Buddhist monks and people of Burma.

Get publicity to pressure our governments for an
agreed upon specific objective.

http://www.aeinstein.org/organizations103a.html
159. The fast
a) Fast of moral pressure
b) Hunger strike
c) Satyagrahic fast

Reading about the treatement of the Buddhist monks has made
this a difficult (in a sense, mourning) spiritual period
for millions of people across the planet.

30. The Einstein Institute has produced some great documentaries
on peaceful resistance to authoritarian governments in different places around the globe in differing times in history. LinkTV ran some of them and I made certain that my kids watched them, and they were engrossed and took it in...not what they see in classes in school!

31. That thought led to my poking around and finding this
on their website:

The Role of Power in Nonviolent Struggle
Einstein Institution Monograph Series #3
by Gene Sharp

"Nonviolent action . . . is capable of wielding great power even against ruthless rulers and military regimes," writes Sharp, "because it attacks the most vulnerable characteristic of all hierarchical institutions and governments: dependence on the governed." Abstracted from Sharp's classic three-volume work, The Politics of Nonviolent Action, this monograph summarizes the core concepts behind the technique of nonviolent struggle. For more information click here. 19 pp. 1990, 1994

Looks very interesting and only $3.00.

I don't see their documentaries on the site, sadly.

Thanks for posting!

32. I looked in the "films" section in the site map, and 'A Force More
Powerful' is the closet that I could find to what we watched (twice) on LinkTV, but I don't think it is the same documentary. What we watched covered apartheid in S. Africa, Poland when the Nazi's invaded, Chile under Pinochet and some other places around the globe that aren't coming into my head right now, but it was great for my kids to see and for us to share. It wasn't just me spouting it out to them, they saw the black and white footage in some instances, and it was 'living history' for them.

I remember seeing einsteininstution.org being the major source of what we watched, as my oldest like his parents, are admirers of Einstein and his essays on peace, etc.

33. More info about that and their other film
A Force More Powerful

A Force More Powerful, a three-hour, two-part documentary series reveals one of the 20th century's most important but least understood stories how millions chose to battle the forces of brutality and oppression with nonviolent weapons and won....

Bringing Down a Dictator

Bringing Down A Dictator documents the spectacular defeat of Slobodan Milosevic in October, 2000, not by force of arms, as many had predicted, but by an ingenious nonviolent strategy of honest elections and massive civil disobedience....

-----

I just checked, and Netflix doesn't have either of these films. HOWEVER, since both are available on DEVELOPED it is possible to request that they carry them. I'm going to do that. If others would as well, perhaps they'd buy some copies. Both look very interesting.

Thanks for looking more carefully than I did!
