Next time a conservative complains Bush betrayed them
give them a copy of the wonderful editorial in the NY Times

"Well, I don’t know what true conservatism is, but while doing research for my forthcoming book I spent a lot of time studying the history of the American political movement that calls itself conservatism — and Mr. Bush hasn’t strayed from the path at all. On the contrary, he’s the very model of a modern movement conservative."

2. A significant number of former Bush voters, who felt by the GOP, are now voting Democratic..........

I think there are at least 2 types of people who feel betrayed by the authoritarian conservative movement.

One of those types realize that they themselves, even if they think of themselves as conservative, have more in common with liberals, independents, and Democrats than they do with today's "movement conservatism" Some of these individuals, such as John Dean and Bruce Fein, not only have supported Democrats, but are forceful advocates of impeachment.

Another type, like many of the current demagogues on right wing radio (such as Michael Savage), want to separate themselves from Bush and his disasters, so that an even worse authoritarian can be elected in 2008.
