Bird Released After Getting Feather Implants

(CBS13) DAVIS A bird found entangled in fishing line and hanging from a tree is back in the wild after getting some unusual help from UC Davis Wildlife Veterinarians. The bird got feather implants.

While it sounds bizarre, doctors say they've been doing this procedure for hundreds of years.

This procedure called, imping, sounds like something new but is actually fairly common at UC Davis and the International Bird Rescue Research Center.

Dr. Bill Ferrier, Senior Clinical Veterinarian at UC Davis has done many feather implants

On Monday, a Black Crown Night Heron that had been tangled in fishing line is getting flight feathers. They were donated by a bird that had already died.
