For those of you unaware, this is a South Park reference, to the episode named "Douche and Turd". In the episode, the children have to choose a new school mascot, and the choices are a Giant Douche, or a Turd Sandwich. The children split their votes between them in a tie, and rely on Stan to break the tie. Stan decides that the choices are stupid, and that he will not vote. This causes a huge controversy, and hilarity ensues. Originally, this was broadcast just before the 2004 elections, and it was rebroadcast just before the 2006 midterm elections.
So, what does this have to do with us today?
There is a lesson in this episode. In the end, Stan realizes the importance of voting, and that its always between a giant douche and a turd sandwich, since those are the only types of people that suck up enough to rise to the top in politics. If we don't vote, then we are simply saying that we accept whichever one wins the election.
Are you willing to say that you simply accept a Republican President in 2008?
By not voting, that is exactly what you are saying.
As sad as it sounds, folks, sometimes we have the Right to choose between a Giant Douche and a Turd Sandwich. And I wouldn't give up that right for anything in the world.
