UPDATED AT 12:55 P.M.

Two of three leading Democratic presidential nominees have removed their names from the Jan. 15 Michigan presidential primary.

U.S. Sen. Barack Obama and former Sen. John Edwards both filed paperwork to have their names withdrawn minutes ago with the Michigan Secretary of State’s office.

New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson sent a letter yesterday, also asking to be taken off the list.

==

The big question now is whether Sen. Hillary Clinton, the frontrunner among Democrats, will join the others and remove her name from the ballot.

3. No, Hillary hasn't withdrawn her name, and I doubt she will!
So far, there will still be 5 Dems out of the total of 8.

5. Biden also announces that he will pull out
A fourth candidate, Joe Biden, said in a statement that he was withdrawing from Michigan's beauty contest.

"Today's decision reaffirms our pledge to respect the primary calendar as established by the DNC and makes it clear that we will not play into the politics of money and Republican machinations that only serve to interfere with the primary calendar," said Biden for President Campaign Manager Luis Navarro.

2. NH voters don't respect MI Dem's wishes.
Edited on Tue Oct-09-07 12:44 PM by cyclezealot
Neither do Mich Dems' think NH Dems are hot stuff either. Who the hell do they think they are; that, that lilly, white non union state has a right to always lead and have disproportionate say in choosing a nation's president. So the National Dems want to help encourage MI voters to go GOP in the Fall. NH's 4 votes for MI 15 electoral votes, nice trade.

6. Hey, rules are rules
WTF makes MI and FL any better than anyone else? They were warned. Do you want a all year election cycle? by your logic, CA should be first( I would like that) we'd suck up so much campaign money , we would have defacto campaign spending limits on the rest, Ha! Bottom line: break the rules , there are consequences. FL and MI are behaving like spoiled children.

7. What so angers many Democrats throughout the US
Dean's sucking up to NH. NH is always special. They are not. Maybe a small state that more represants national Democrats would be Rhode Island or Maryland. Don't think all states accepted the rules. Some lost due to the power of small states. In time that becomes unacceptable.
