I need help picking apart the Heritage Foundation's
recommendations for compromise on schip:

http://www.heritage.org/Research/HealthCare/wm1652.cfm

1)Child health care credit of $1,200 (do these families pay enough in taxes to get credits?)

2)For certain family income levels, as many as 60 percent of new SCHIP enrollees would be children who already have private coverage.<1> -- I thought that the Democratic legislation prevented this.

Any ideas? Links?

1. They are only trying to make people think they care
they want to throw out there, all these stupid things, and when the democrats haven't accepted them, the can say THEY are the ones not supporting passing the law.

2. explore this site
http://www.cbpp.org/6-5-06health.htm

As for #1, no, those people would not have tax liability. Neither would $1,200 pay for more than 3 months of insurance.

On #2, my question would be "what percentage of new enrollees will be at 'certain family income levels'?" My guess is a fairly low percentage.

3. The HF is not a think tank. It is a Republican propaganda mill.
This is how these sleazeballs work.

#2 is bogus because a) just because you have private insurance doesn't mean you can afford to USE it. And b)to get this 60% number, the HF is quoting their own memo which cites the Congressional Budget Office without actually quoting their report. In other words, they've made this number up out of thin air.

4. Not to mention the fact that many people who can afford private
insurance can't get it because of "pre-existing" conditions. Good private health care is only for people who aren't sick.
