A Montgomery minister was found dead in his home Sunday.

Lt. Mark Drinkard, a police spokesman, said the Reverend Gary M- Aldridge was found about 10 a-m by a member of his church who became concerned after he failed to show up for church services.

Montgomery Mayor Bobby Bright, in a newspaper interview, hinted that the minister may have been the victim of foul play.

Aldridge had been a senior pastor at Thorington Road Baptist Church for 15 years.

Nearly 7 years ago pastor Steve Campbell used a Sunday service to dedicate the new Snowdoun Baptist Church. Campbell had a special guest in the congregation that day.. Reverend Gary Aldridge.

"Gary was a dear friend of mine," Campbell said.

Reverend Gary Aldridge was found dead in his home in east Montgomery. Apparently murdered. He was the senior pastor at Thorington Road Baptist Church for the last 15 years.

Campbell says he and Aldridge went way back. In fact, when Campbell felt the gentle push to become a minister, it was Gary Aldridge who encouraged him to answer the call.

"He was a great encourager. I'll always be grateful to him for that," said Campbell.

In his office at Snowdoun Baptist Church, Campbell showed us some pictures of a missionary trip he and Aldridge had taken a few years ago. Pastor Campbell remembered a man who was real, no pretense, a man who gave of himself.

Gary Aldridge graduated from Liberty University and later worked for the late Jerry Falwell. A former colleague at the school remembered him as well.

"He went on to become one of the deans and the students loved him. He had a tremendous impact on them," said Dr. Bob Miller of Liberty University.

As investigators try to figure out what happened, Steve Campbell says this is by far the hardest thing he's ever had to go through yet despite the loss of a close, personal friend, Steve Campbell says he won't even bother asking 'why.'

"It's easy to get into that which is understandable but I believe God is still in control," Campbell said.

Campbell says he last talked with Aldridge by phone two weeks ago. He described it as a 'light-hearted' conversation with no hint of trouble.

Campbell tells us there will be a prayer service Tuesday night in memory of Gary Aldridge. That service begins at 7 o clock at the Thorington Road Baptist Church.

It was in a Village Voice article about 20 years ago on one woman's journey to becoming a Dominatrix.

The RightWingers aren't really hypocrites.
The truth is much more disturbing than that. Hypocrisy is saying one thing and doing the other. They say one thing because they are obsessed with doing the other. So they are consistent, but deranged.

The religious right calls "gay" a "lifestyle" and a "choice." They aren't anti-gay people so much as they are anti-gay behavior, as they imagine that, and they spend a lot of time imagining it. They aren't really anti-gay in any meaningful sense either, being anti-gay is merely a position in a sick drama, and is part of a confusion about sex, human relations, dominance and violence. Features of this mindset include an inability to empathize with others, since the internal struggle dominates everything and precludes really seeing people. Everything about the right wing movement we are seeing is fueled by this perverted - twisted, altered, misrepresented - sexuality.

Dobson can say with a straight face, as he did about the Foley scandal, that the root problem is too much tolerance and diversity. That is because in his world - in his mind, which he cannot distinguish from reality - we are all depraved maniacs barely held in check by threats of punishment. This same pattern now controls our foreign policy - we have had too much peace and understanding, you see, and that is dangerous.

So they aren't hypocrites. They are insane in the medical model, and Satanic and evil in the religious model. Up actually is down for them - they aren't lying.

This is why the incompetence charge against the Republican leadership is off base. They aren't trying to do the right thing and failing. They are trying to do evil (or sick) things and succeeding. They think preying on children helps the children. They think killing people saves them. It is all much more weird and disturbing than most people realize.
